i don't understand you guys and making people resign because of affairs. What if this guy is really the best guy for the job of CIA director? I mean that's an important job and many people's safety depends on it. If he's truly the best man for the job he should be able to take part in Snoop Dogg's orgies and not have to resign.
If i need an operation i want the best doctor, i don't care who he is sleeping with. He could have his mistress in the operating room while he texts his wife he loves her for all i care. At that point i just want the best guy.

It goes to morality and also decision making. In a movie star I agree, who cares who they're bumping against. When it comes to public officials of high rank making gigantic decisions that could affect the country everyday then I think they should be held to a high standard.

I think what's being overlooked is the fact that the head spy wasn't slick enough to have an affair and not get caught. You'd think that somewhere along the line he'd of had some training on being more sneakier.

What it really highlights is how out of touch with reality these guys are. Every one of them is so wrapped up in their power that they don't think anything so stupid will happen to them.

The point of the resignation was because of his decision making and trust. In a position like that, trust is a neccessity and so is having a relatively clean "closet". I think the point of it coming out was to get in front of it, and now we are seeing all the weird turns. Im guessing we havent heard the last of the story. But as the director, it is also important to not have anything out adversaries could hold against or use as blackmail as well. Its really intel world 101, people can be witheld the clearances and positions because of financial issues, personal issues, character flaws all because those are things that can be exploited. This is no different. The leaders in these positions should be held to a different standard than movie stars or average people.

If he is able to fall for a suburban soccer mom with whom he shares an email account; how easy do you think it would be for a real female spy to compromise him and his position. He knows this; that is why he resigned immediately. Beyond the infidelity and the accompanying embarrassment, he knows he screwed up professionally.

i suppose you guys are right, i didn't really consider the blackmail aspect. I guess that is why i would make a pretty bad spy
But in general, adultery is pretty common among people in positions of power, i guess it's hardly surprising. He's still got nothing on J Edgar Hoover!
