I just figured out another one today. A 46-48* stand alone wedge. Not the matching pitching wedge for your set of irons. Only players play a stand alone pitching wedge. I've never seen a mid handicapper with a stand alone pitching wedge. Throw some lead tape on there and guarantee that guy is a player.

How to intimidate someone by only having them look at your bag.

Quarter sized brown spots on every single club including your 3w....

To get desired effect either:
1. Be an actual player and pure balls on the range all day developing those spots.
2. 1000 grit sand paper + a quarter + some dirt....sit in front of TV and rub, rub, rub. Place in the aforementioned Hoofer bag.

Late to the party(post) as always, but enjoyed it more by reading all the reactions to it.

Personally, I counted my two cart bags of clubs - and I got 10 frickin' brands that I play!  That hopefully would never scare anybody, maybe I just confuse the scratch players once in awhile.  My game never will intimidate, but my equipment has never helped nor hurt me IMHO.

Since I find myself in a minority mostly here in the Hot Desert courses where I generally walk-on as a single, I walk with my battery-powered cart.  Actually, due to clubs tangling in the dividers, and hating the rattling sounds of irons, I went way against the theme here with my high dollar Bennington QO-12 bags - but it helps keep my course speed rate up - I can keep up with all the wusses who drive a cart here.

If anything, they mostly drive their carts, and never have time to look into my bag.  Even though I'm pushing 50, I am in better physical shape than 99 percent of those I end up playing with from being a workout nut.  I know I can't intimidate with my game (except I am an excellent putter! :derisive: ), but with the multi-brands of clubs and the sight of me sprinting down the fairways to my ball, I hope to grab the trophy for the most confusing bag of clubs and player around.

ps. Avid Bass fishing guys out there.  You guys do know that having a Nitro 22' with a Merc 225 hp boat, and a half dozen rigged n ready $300 rod/reel combos puts you right up there with pros, AND can actually help you catch more fish!  Plus, that's a more fun way to go at it!  Enjoy your hobbies in our short time on this place and try to leave a smaller footprint.

My bag of fourteen clubs consists of two drivers(one being 4 degrees), 2 iron, 64 lob, and a long putter.  Also, I am Left handed.

The only thing more intimidating I can think of would be:

A carry bag with no leg stands.  He just carries it like a piece of luggage for all 18 holes and he never feels pain in his shoulder.
No bag at all.  Just carrying 6 clubs by hand with one ball.
Steel shafted driver.
Very old putter.
1 iron

One of the best reads I have had in a while, has to be an early favorite for post of the year!

I'm always scared of the guy that has a good set of stick and a wedge or putter I have never heard of, that guy is gonna kick your a$$!!

Great read. Spot on. I would have to add a couple intimidating things I've noticed along the way...Every scratch players blades (or players irons) have to have a sweet spot wear mark at about the size of a dime showing that no matter the day or how brutal the condotions are, they never miss the sweetspot. The scotty is a must. It has to be an old scotty that is most likely rusty or beat up. Aftermarket/custom order shafts are pretty intimidating too.

And every intimidating player has some lines they say to mess with their playing partner. For example, after they pipe their drive with their triple xxx flex tour issue shaft they might say, "Hey Bob, have you heard about the supermarket they're building? It's being built between your ball and mine" or something along the lines of...."when i hit shots I don't use the term fore...the only time I use that is when I write my score on a par 5"

Also, every intimidating player has expectations of a tour player...so when they hit that 235 yard sawed off 3 iron to 10 feet they might claim it was a "shank" or an "unforced error" or simply "inexplicable" because any shot outside that 3 foot radius is completely unacceptable

Scotty Laguna 1.5 - Chattered
Hoofer

I think I'll put my staff/cart bag on my push cart, stock it full of water for when it's hot and just take the bets if someone wants to think I'm some kind of hack because of my "accessories".  Yeah, I think that's exactly what I'll do.

Equipment doesn't intimidate, play does.

But since this is about building a bag to try to intimidate - I'll go with the carry bag, no stand, no head-covers on woods or irons, everything is beat to hell....except the money maker, a well cared for blade putter with an old leather wrapped grip. That man knows which side of the bread his butter goes on.
