Nike Golf Releases New Lunar Control

By Zak Kozuchowski

GolfWRX Managing Editor

If you were looking through our photos from the Children's Miracle Network Hospital Classic, then you've seen photos of Nike's snazzy new golf shoe, the revamped "Lunar Control."

The Lunar Control, available Jan. 1, 2013, features a full-length Lunarlon cushioning system, providing lightweight comfort, optimal ground-feel, and all-day support throughout the entire shoe, according to a Nike Golf press release.

The Lunarlon cushioning system is a proprietary technology from Nike that offers comfort and stability where athletes need it most. The Lunarlon Foam midsole is lightweight, durable and highly responsive, resulting in a unique combination of cushioning and support.
Another differentiating detail from the original Lunar Control is increased Nike Flywire technology, wrapping from the midfoot to heel to provide targeted support and lightweight structure.

A Nike Power Platform stabilizes the foot to offer better balance, smoother weight transfer and more power through impact. Working in conjunction with the Power Platform is the patent pending Power Transfer Zone technology which allows for constant contact and a smooth transfer of power at impact.

The Lunar Control was also made lighter -- the total weight for the pair has been reduced from 14.6 ounces to 13.4 ounces (0.6 ounces per shoe).

Here are the key features, pricing and color options:
  • Waterproof premium leather upper
  • Flywire midfoot saddle
  • Full length Lunarlon cushioning
  • Nike Power Platform
  • 2-year Waterproof Warranty

MSRP: $200.00

MAP: $159.99

Sizes: 7-12, 13, 14, 15 (MED); 7.5-12, 13, 14 (WIDE)

Colors: Black/Reflect Silver-Metallic Pewter-Volt, Black/Reflect Silver-Volt-Black, White/Reflect Silver-PR Platinum-PR P, White/Reflect Silver-Hyper Red-Anthr, White/Reflect Silver-Volt-Volt, White/Reflect Silver-Pht Bl-Anthrc

I've had various models of Nike golf shoes and all were very comfortable.

If I have one bone to pick with Nike is they never make their golf shoes available for customization on the NikeID website.  I can customize a 25 year old pair of Nike basketball shoes but can't do so to a new pair of golf shoes? Just leaves me shaking my head.

I like these, but I don't know if I should just shell out the extra 20 bucks or so on the TW13s instead.

Not a bad looking shoe.  But I think Adidas/Ashworth would get mad at me.  :D

Couldn't agree more with the NikeID. Footjoy and Adidas both do it.

I think they look better in the real life shots then they do in the stylized nike ad photos. I don't like the look as much as the current lunar control though.

Some little changes, the back heel part looks a little weird to me.

But ill probably pick one up down the road. Ill stick to my TW 13's for a long while.

Those are sweet. I like the look of the athletic shoe. Definitely agree with the posts above. Wish they would provide some customization.

LOL, Jan 1 release and a color for every new outfit for you know who! I like, Nike has never made a good shoe for my foot...Cardiff so far fit better than anything by far.  I will try them on...not paying $159.  To the poster that stated these look worse than TW shoe, you sir...are a bit out of it today...IMO.

These look okay in pictures, but really good in person, except for the yellow.  Not a big fan of it.  I've got the wht/blk/gry and the wht/blue/blk on order and considering the red accent pair.
