You're a lucky dude getting to play there. Played it twice when I tried to qualify for the US Am.
Course info: The wind WILL be blowing, the greens will likely be rock hard and fast (when I played they were rolling 13.5 according to the CGA official on the first tee and were slightly softer than concrete), and the conditions will generally be close to perfect. Expect it to be difficult.
As far as what to do...not really sure. The club itself it on the outer edge of the city, so not much out there around it.

Pro can't get you on. My co-worker is one of the founding members so I get to play it pretty regularly. Pretty exclusive and private place as is Figure 8 island right outside of it. Not much to do around it, but go check out the Hooters down near UNC Wilmington. Pretty spectacular.

Probably a dumb question...how difficult is it to get on Eagle Point? Can my pro llikely get me on with a phone call or is it a lot harder than that?
Well, it depends on who your pro is. If you pro knows the staff at Eagle Point personally, then it might be possible. For a "cold call" you'd have virtually no chance.
