The Wilson Zip has been my game ball for quite some time now.  I've been playing it for a few years, and I think it is hands down the best performing ball in the low cost category.  With these things being on the discount racks for over a year now, I've become very comfortable with paying less then $1 a ball.  I know, I've been spoiled.

But now the Zip is becoming harder and harder to find.  I think early 2013 is going to finally push me into something new, so I figure I should start trying balls now.  I have tried allot of different balls from most price points, but I am looking for a new gamer/go to.  

What I'm looking for:
1. Low(ish) cost - I'm on a budget, I lose balls. It's just reality.
2. Wilson Zip has been my go to for over a year, so similar feel/performance would be nice
3. No brand loyalty  
4. I know most balls in the <$1/ball class are 2 piece rocks, so I am willing to spend a little more for the right fit.  I'd just like to keep the cost as low as possible.

I have tried the Gamer V2's, and I like those, but they are also becoming scarce. I like a handful of premium balls, but not enough to justify $3.50-4/ball.  I figure if I can narrow down 3 or 4 types to give long term trials to, I can have a new gamer in the bag before Texas hits temps over 90 again.

You can still find the Zips at Walmart, 24 for $19.99. The Wilson 50's seem to play similarly to the zips at about $15 dozen and seem to still be fairly easy to find. The new Wilson DUO has received very good reviews, they run about $19.99 dozen. I think any of these would fit your criteria.

Thanks guys.  I know you can still find the Zips at several places.  It's just those places have been fewer around here, so I figured they might be running low soon. Just keeping an eye out.  Once the zips become old news I'll take a look at the 50 and the Duo.

Any other input?

Top Flite D2 Feel is a pretty good budget ball.  I played them a lot last fall/winter.  They can usually be found at Wally's.

Also, Wilson has a new line out in the budget category.  They're called something like Tour Velocity and the 9000.  I've seen them on the shelf but I haven't heard much about them yet...someone go try them and report back.

I also like the D2 Feel as a low price 2 piece ball. Recently tied the Duo and really liked it for a $20 ball. Not all 2 piece balls are rocks these days and finding a nice 2 piece ball for $20 and under isn't that hard.

I too like you play the zips.  lately ive been using the 2 piece Titleist Xouts sold at Walmart.  From what i can see they just have very minor blemishes on the logo.  They are not wrapped so you can see which balls you are getting.  Normally most are the new NXT Tour S or the Velocity with maybe a DT Solo or their HP distance ball mixed in.  Best of all $9.86/box.  I prefer yellow balls and sometimes I can luck out and find a few sleeves of the tour s yellows.  Best value around.  If you don't like the little xout logo on the side I simply draw my putting aid line over it so you can't see it.

Ok. Texas A&M is the real deal. They belong in the SEC. Cannot say the same about Mizzou.

PGA Tour Superstore in Boca Raton, FL,  had Zips on sale for $7.99/dz. a few weeks ago.

Haha, thanks.  That was quite the game yesterday! Glad to see the guys doing so well. Our change in coaches has FINALLY paid off.

I think the Duo comes about as close as anything to the Zip but it seems to player "heavier" to me. The Duo doesn't get up in the air quite as easily with the longer clubs and it has a firmer feel chipping and playing short wedge shots.

I found a lot of balls that play pretty similar to the Duo but none that play exactly like the Zip (well, the older Px3 Soft Distance or something like that was similar to the Zip but long discontinued). Actually the Titleist DT Solo isn't too terribly far from the Zip for my game but of course they are $20/dozen.

FWIW, the current "Black Friday" advert for Edwin Watts lists Duo Blems at 2 dozen for 20 bucks if you want to try them.

Thanks for all the info guys.  I was able to find more zips at the PGA superstore for about $9 a dozen.  I have 6 dozen and stock right now, so hopefully I won't need to worry about this for another few months/year!
