I would think if you have "make an offer" , someone offers you $10 less than your asking price and you turn it down then what is the point of having "make an offer" in your listing. It is evident by the seller turning it down that he wants the asking price and won't take less. Unless of course they are thinking someone might make a higher offer than their asking price.

The OP makes a fair point. If the seller isn't willing to go $10 less, what would be the point of trying for $50?

He shouldn't even have 'Make an Offer' available if he has no intentions of accepting them. So when he complains about answering empty emails over people making offers, it is his own d*** fault.

Maybe not to you, but you were the guy that offered $10 below the asking price on a $500 BIN.  Did you buy the club or not?

nope

I knew the answer before I asked the question.

So, it's not okay for the seller to turn down your offer $10 below his BIN, and yet it's perfectly fine for you to draw a line in the sand at that point?

That's awesome.

What is it again that you're upset with?

and you want to know what happens if he changes his mind and tells me he'll take my original offer, it goes down another $10

Somehow I don't think you'll have to worry about that, but if he does, then that's certainly your prerogative.

For what it's worth, in my experience, the seller you've called out in this thread has some of the most competitive (lowest) prices I see on whatever he's selling.

Should have offered him 499. Seriously, if you are that interested in the clubs pay $10 more! Don't be a cheap dbag.

How is he being a cheap dbag if the person stated in their ad that they were open to offers?  If you are not willing to go $10 less than asking than don't put say you are open to offers, if anything the seller is the dbag here.

I agree.  If your going to put your price OBO, nobody is going to pay what your asking.  On a $500 club, an offer $10 less than that is solid, I don't know why anyone would decline that...

I don't think you can offer MORE than the buy it now price, can you?  It doesn't really make sense for that to be an option since the item is obviously still available if you have the ability to make an offer on it.  Only place I could see offering more is somewhere like the BST here where the item is already "sold" and you are trying to get the seller to give it to you instead of the person it's already "sold" to.

And I agree it's dumb to list "or best offer" if you aren't even going to accept 98% of your asking price.

I can't see how anybody can dog on the OP. It's a "buy it now" or "make offer" auction, he offered $490 on a $500 BIN item. The seller turned that down, how the F does that make sense?

I don't get the hate for the OP for using an option that the seller made available. If the seller didn't want to take less than his asking price he shouldn't have used the Make an Offer option. Yesterday I won an K15 hybrid that the seller listed at $65 and had the Make an Offer option. I offered $55 and he accepted.

There is no hate for the OP.  He's the one that started this thread...presumably to complain about the seller, and to hear what others thought.

The bottom line is the seller can do whatever the heck he wants.  It's his product for Pete's sake.  It's a contract.  The OP made an offer, and the seller refused.  Why the hate for the seller?

maybe it was early and he was waiting for someone to buy it.

and i think asking $10 below the price is fair, basically covers shipping and maybe thats what the OP was looking for.

I have gotten two shafts from JD and both were a pleasant experience. The R11 shaft I got was a 1st bid win at "full price." The 910 shaft I made an offer, was declined, sent him a message, and we settled on a mutual price. He does great work on adapter and grip installs too. I'll buy from him again when I feel the need to change shafts arrives (because I'm a ho).

Goobers, I also would like to say thank you for your experience with the "make an offer" auction.
I had a guy bidding on a driver recently that I was praying would not win it. It was a regular auction. He kept sending me messages trying to buy the driver at a low price. I kept telling him to just bid and he kept responding with offers. He finally was the first bidder and stayed that way a while...thank goodness it went for a fair price to another bidder. I might have to try the offer auction next time.

What does any of this have to do with offering $10 less for an eBay item?

Nothing.

This is now so far off topic its not even funny.

I frequently long for the good old days when we looked each other in the eye to help ensure our message was understood by our mutual body language and verbal replies. Barring that, picking up the phone and doing the same without the visual body language. When I was working, I tried to encourage folks that the more complicated the issue, don't try to do it by email, speak in person or by phone.

No one meant bad things here, it just grew, and people misunderstood other people who cared about things too.

And it's grown way beyond the original topic post....

Moderators, can we call this over please?
