As a good service to my friends/co-workers I give them golf lessons and I do regripping or reshafting for free.  So this morning as I was walking to my desk I noticed that I had a "present" waiting for me in the form of a broken putter.  It's early, and I haven't had my coffee yet but I recognize the grip, and any club junkie can pick out a Scotty Cameron Pistolero grip.  My initial thought was,"Wow, one of the engineers finally got off their wallet and invested in their equipment. Good for them!".

As I get closer and closer to my desk I notice that something about the finish looks odd, remind you that it's early and I'm one cup of coffee below functioning level.
I finally arrive at my desk and I see this....this....thing on my desk.

What had eluted from my mind is that the co-worker had just gotten back from China. Talking with him later on in the day he told me that the reason the club was snapped in two was because it wouldn't fit in his luggage. So my weekend will be filled with pulling a $3 head off a broken shaft, blowing a $1 grip off the other half, and ordering a shaft. Needless to say, no good deed goes unpunished.

What tops all of that is what the description says.

And yes, if you scan the bar code in it comes up as a Scotty Cameron Putter....

I wonder how well it putts compared to a real one? What if by some weird chance the loft, lie and swingweight fit better? Circle C -- For Counterfeits Only?

If he wasn't so excited I wouldn't fix, but the look on his face when he came down to talk to me was one of a 5 year old getting a puppy.

The same thought ran through my mind. It seems like out of all clubs, a counterfeit putter would make the least difference, and who knows, maybe you get lucky and it works!

LOL i am no SC expert and I have seen many threads over the years where someone asks about their putter and I honestly can't tell it's fake but this is ridiculous! Did you tell the guy it was a fake? Did you tell him if it was real it would be cost plus 20 bucks but in this case it would be cost plus 120? I would smash that head, come back in on monday and have this conversation with him

"remember your putter that was in 2 pieces?"

"well yeah, of course"

"well now it's in 4 pieces! OH NO'S!" as you reveal the battered atrocity on your desk. Then hand him a bill for your time regardless.

Don't want to be a party pooper but ,say you fix it your colleague games it for a little while, gets board with it then sells it on.
Some other unsuspecting buyer then ends up with  a fake.
It should be destroyed.
Just sayin

I was worried about him selling it too so I told him that I would only fix it if he were to never pass it off as a real Scotty and never sell it. Plus, a fake as bad as this would be picked up on from anyone willing to spend the coin for a real one.

Not necessarily. I've seen quite a few fakes fetch some high bids on ebay. My brother-in-law works a a golf shop and just had a fake Cameron Studio Style come through earlier this summer.  IIRC, it came in as trade in and accepted by one of the salesmen.
