Getting ready to place my staff order with Titleist for my irons and have been contemplating on this shaft. For reference I normally play s400 in everything. What would be the differences between those and the Nippon in an X flex?

Weight... little softer feel.  Flex being equal I would say they're higher launch and spin than S400... my shaft of choice also.  Its a great shaft but if you're an S400 guy and likely getting the set for free as staff then I'd get S400 tour and be happy.

Already have the same set with s400. Kinda looking to play around with something else. Would never give up my AP2's with s400. Best irons ever.

I play them in S56's. If you play s400's these would be a nice transition. They seem to have similar flight characteristics to the S300's I've played in the past, but have a better feel to them. Just ordered a set of PXi's and can't wait to compare them to the Modus3's,

So what do you want different?  Is it gonna be another AP2 set?

I played them in s56.  They are off the charts in the feel category - heavenly..  My observation was that they were very soft to flex.  I played the stiff and was hitting my irons really far, and really willy nilly.  Modus 3 have a softer butt section.

I am getting 3-5 AP2 6-PW MB. I could stand to hit the ball a little higher. I tend to hit my irons really far and kind of low. 190-195 7 iron. Sometimes I have trouble stopping 3,4,5 from the fairway. Swing speed with driver hovers around 122. I have tried other shafts in the past but just love the feel of the s400. I have pretty smooth transition and x100 feels a little to harsh. Any suggestions?

I had that same experience with my CMB's with C Taper stiff. Irons were going ridiculous distances. Way too far to play good. 25 yard gaps are no good.

Well I think you're on the right track then ... I would do PXi or Modus 3.  I'd definitely put you in 6.5 or X in Modus but I'm similar to you in that I fit into X via speed but just like S400.  I'm 112 or so... not 122 which is moving it.  I've played X100 and PX 6.5 well for years but you're right they lack the feel S400 gives while still performing well.  I think you'd enjoy PXi 6.5, impact is very smooth feeling and should help you launch it a little higher in the longer irons.

For you, additional spin sounds good.  Hitting home runs from the middle of the fairway certainly doesn't help scoring.

I thought about PXi but I hate the original so much I can't force myself to do it. I have never disagreed so much with a shaft as I do with the Project X.

PXi is very different than the original. Hit it and I think you too would agree. They feel out of this world.

I play nippon modus 3 120 stiff in my irons. Really like the feel but the flight is really high. I thought these would be lower launch than KBS Tour but they are higher. I have tested TI S400 and I thought the flight was mid and much more boring.

Don't mean to thread jack but how do the Super Peening Blues compare to the Modus?  I heard that they are similar to the DG's but smoother.

I think the Modus 3 line shafts are the best shafts out there, super smooth, straight and just seem easy for me to hit than any other shaft I have tried.  They have stiff, x-flex and tour x, to me something for everyone.  As far as high ball flight? I haven't seen that, to me more mid but flat.  They seem to be very popular with the Euro's, so that kinda contradicts high ball flight with their playing conditions.

I think they play soft and hence everyone is under-fitting themselves.  If you are an S300 guy I'd lean towards X (not tour X)

I recently got fitted for new i20 irons (8 cap) and chose the modus3 tour 120 stiff shafts.  I got a pm about them and here is my reponse.

"I preferred the modus3 stiff to the CFS for several reasons but the CFS is still a very nice shaft. I preferred the CFS to the KBS and the dynamic gold shafts.

The LM numbers and feel were better with the modus. The CFS shaft was very high launching to me and the ball felt like it was really cannoning / trampolining off the face. Not necessarily bad but the modus felt crisper and I had better feedback about ball contact.

I am not sure if the modus is stiffer than the CFS. I'm told the characteristics are unusual (I.e the freq of the modus looks soft on paper to a clubfitter / maker) because the tip of the shaft is quite stiff compared to other stiff shafts (to promote control) while the butt of the shaft is softer to promote feel.

All I can really say is it worked for me and in my hands the modus was relatively high launching (higher than kbs and dg but less than CFS) even though it is listed as low to mid launch I believe."

Hope this helps, the modus3 feels great to me and the high launching part is that the ball gets up and then just goes.  I have not yet played with the set in windy conditions so remains to be seen.  LM numbers were just really good and fitter said the height of the iron shots were right inline with what I should be doing with my swing speed (84 mph 7i)

If you are looking at the Modus X flex, with those swing speed numbers, you will be disappointed.  You need to order the TOUR X in the Modus.  I play the regular X and Im not even close to that swing speed.  Also, the TOUR X will be much closer in weight to the S400.
