I was hitting some irons at a demo day and hadnt tried the AP2 irons in a while.
I gave them a few hits and they felt great.

Just wondering if anyone is still playing these irons and your thoughts?
Forgiveness?  Ball Flight?  Accuracy?

Are they considered a players iron?

Does anyone still play these?!?!?!?  I think they are one of the most frequently played irons on tour and by amatuers.  

I love mine.  They perform great in all the areas you ask.  Workable but forgiving.  I highly recommend them.

Z-TX's are for hacks.  Only a silver rating on the 2010 Hot List, only 4 stars Performance, and 3 1/2 stars for Look/Sound/Feel.  AP2's are 5 star, and gold rating.

Isn't it cute how all the companies that advertise so heavily in that golf magazine always are the ones with the great scores. Hmmmm....Obviously, they are such great makers of clubs, that's why they advertise so heavily. Of course, to spread the obvious truth...right.
It's the same at car sites, musical gear sites, tire sites, fishing tackle sites, on and on we go....

If you believe in those ratings, I have some waterfront real estate in New Jersey for you. Real nice. Gets 5 stars in the Hoboken Express too.

I play a set of ap2s, mine are satin which look a ton better IMO, and think they are the best overall clubs I've owned.  The 712 ap2 from address look virtually identical to the CBs

In my opinion the AP2's are far from the best looking iron, but they definitely aren't the worst either.  A lot of people like the AP2's and they are a decent mix of forgiveness without being shovels with a ton of offset.  Overall I found the feel to be rather bland and did not care for the turf interaction.  I was really disappointed when I hit the AP2's, especially againt Mizunos.  Titleist has a different feel to their irons, so it definitely depends on whether you like the Titleist click off your irons.  They saw forged, but when you hit them they don't feel like a typical forged iron.  They just felt like a typical Titleist cast iron to me.

Overall it is a solid club, but sometimes I think it gets more hype than deserved just because Titleist has a loyal cult following.

And he's the one that says he says he bought a 17* 910H with a 90g ahina stiff that goes 280 and he has no idea what to do with it and he thinks that's too stiff for him. You're not blasting that 280 if you can't handle a Made for Titleist ahina 90g in stiff flex. It's a good thing you sold it!

Back to the actual thread. The AP2s are nice looking clubs. Perfect blend of player's club, forgiveness, ball flight with the right shafts. Get fit. There's a reason why they're the most played clubs on tour.

Nothing beats the AP2s - They are Uber forgiving, feel like sledgehammers, look great in the bag and hold a great resale value as everyone wants Ap2s.  

Stop messing around and get them already.

Once you get used to how huge they are, they are pretty forgiving.  Because of the hugeness and wide soles, they are tougher to hit out of heavy rough compared to blades.  I spend a lot of time in heavy rough, and a blade 8 iron is much easier than a giant iron, but from the short grass, the AP2 is very forgiving.  It is amazing how many greens you can hit with mis-hits.

I just benched my AP2's in favor of my new cobra s3 pro cb's
Just didn't like the turf interaction with the ap2's and the ball flight was a little inconsistent for my likening
That were good, but are worlds apart from the clubs I've got now.

ive always wanted to like the 712 ap2's but everytime Ive demoed them I can't hit them worth a crap, I actually hit the 710's better. Im going to give them another try soon but they do look exactly like the mb/cb line, I actually think they have a thinner sole than the cb's? IMO they arent very fogiving but I havent been able to hit them very well.

I wish the ap1 wasnt soo freaking big or I would get those in a heartbeat, they jump from a ap2 that looks like a blade to the ap1 which is borderline g20 size.

710/712 have only very minor differences... if you can hit the 710, you can hit the 712...??

And no, they dont have a thinner sole then the CB's...

They are in fact the biggest irons I have ever owned in over 40 years of golf.  I know they make even bigger ones, but I have never owned any.  My 2009 x-forged were my 2nd biggest, and my first game improvement clubs.  (I am not a great golfer, but I grew up in the blade era).


Guess which one is the giant AP2, and which is from my old set.
