Very excited to see what Ryo will be wearing now. He has always had a unique fashion sense and will Callaway be able to create a whole new line to dress Ryo in what he wants to wear? I dont see Callaway with any slim fitting golf pants nor slim fitting polo fits...of course...not yet.

Callaway golf japan has some slim fitting clothes.  As a matter of fact most japan size golf clothes are on a small size or tighter fit. Most brands have a japan specific line.   I wear us medium but in japan I had to find xl or o (stands for oversize) for Nike, callaway, puma or addidas japan stuff.

I hope that callaway will bring these slim fitting line here at a reasonable price.

This would be a smart pickup. Ryo is huge already in one of the few markets that will be growing and has potential to be a mega-star if he can progress and start winning on a global level. Could be a huge payoff.

Sounds like a good move for Ryo and Callaway.  I'm sure Yonex is sad to see him go.  I'm actually sad to see him leave Yonex since he's been with them since the beginning, but I'm sure Callaway can offer him so much more (not just in terms of money).  I've been wanting to see him progress more outside of Japan.

I doubt Callaway will release slim fit clothing in the US because of Ryo.  Although there are more slim fit golf clothes being sold in the US than before, I still don't think the market for it is very big.

I really have to shop around to find golf clothes that fit me.  A non-slim fit US small in golf clothing is too big and baggy for me most of the time.  I'm 5'8" 140lbs, which is pretty slim but I'm only a little below the average US male height.  You would think at least a small would fit me.  I think the main thing to keep in mind is that the average male golfer is still a slightly overweight middle-aged man.  There are younger golfers in decent shape, but we are in the American golfing minority.

Great pick up for Callaway, if true, actually great pick up for any brand. He's the real deal, great swing, very decent distance, great putter, he smiles and appears to be grateful to the fans. i just wish he would break thru to the other side and win a couple of full field tourneys. Being the complete package, I wonder if the language barrier or life style difference is to blame?

If you look at how Callaway as a company is doing I think you may see Callaway reign things in with their fringe product lines, like eyewear, shoes, clothing and some of the accessories. Its time they began to focus more on golf, where they are puking on their shoes in market share. Last quarter they were down 15% despite their liquidation of inventory and today they are still over inventoried in relationship to sales.  I realize some of their products above is a licensee arrangement, but they really need to tighten things up, regroup before they start investing in asian fit clothes for the US. They have the steak but the brand has lost some sizzle, most of it is headed to adidas/taylormade/adams.

The loss, if it turns out to a loss for YY and he does sign with soembody else, will be a ? for some time. The bottom line is that if Ishikawa plays more on the PGA Tour, as he has stated is his intention, how much impact would he have on sales versus the much ballyhooed American players he is up against for marketing and impact? Rickie Fowler and Bubba come to mind. Even if he wins a few times and perhaps a major one day would the general public love him like a Phil or Tiger or a Bubba? Not likely. The fact is YY doesnt have a Tour van, staff players, and non existent marketing in the USA. To start such a thing would take a HUGE amount of money and would be required if you were going to mach the money Ishikawa could get from another company and try to sell clubs in the USA. This huge investment wouldnt be just for one year but would be for  minimum of 5 years to get sales moving.  The Japan report is 7 million per year from Callaway. They have all the things I mentioned AND they are not strong in the Japan market. Makes sense for Callaway and not much sense for YY.

I would think that Callaway would be pretty damn happy if he continued to play, and dominate the japanese/asian tours while making the standard 10 or whatever starts in the states. Love it if Harry would hop in to this thread but that's asking for a lot.

Insomnia sucks.

Pure speculation but I think he's done with being in Japan and being under the microscope 24/7.  This whole season for him has been a down one and there's been numerious stories about his personal situation.(about his girlfriend and his dad).   He's been playing pretty much non stop (20 tournaments?) since the british open in the JPGA.  He's doing this to fulfill his sponsorship obligations and also a way to say thank you to the fans and sponsors.

Signing with an foreign equipment maker makes sense especially now that he's planning to move his base to the PGA. I hope he finds his game back and make a run.

I hate the way most golf shirts are sized; most of it seems to be going back to the super-baggy sizing that was popular there for a while around 2000. "No sir, I don't like it."

I know some insiders saying that no matter how popular Ishikawa is, Yonex's club sales didn't go through the roof like expected. It did increase but most of the sales when up in the apparel and junior clubs. I guess the original investment on him didnt pay off or Yonex couldnt pay the same amount of money to continue the contract.

A little different to ishikawa's situation but probably a bit like Harrigton. Even if he won 3 majors we don't see a huge number of people buying Wilson equipment.

I don't know of one signing by anyone that has resulted in huge sales of their equipement, with the possible exception of some pros with Wilson staffs decades ago,

Good pick up either way for Callaway and I really hope ryo would blossom in this country with some steady top tens

callaway japan really comes out with great stuff..

..i can't understand why the big difference between their US and japan models---aside from the prices..

it seems the US version are like their rejects!!

or they probably realize they can't sell them in the US at the price points they need to be profitable..

Asian Market wants the best equipment and will pay big $$$ for it.

American Market wants the best equipment but will NOT pay for it.
Asian market = not so smart consumer
American Market = smart and well informed consumer.

Seriously.  Who in America really believes a $1000 or $2000 driver or a $3000 set of irons is going to improve their game?

@jmvargas good point, we should push mfgs to give us the best they can. A well informed buyer can save hundreds on a 1k set of mizzy irons.
