I was at Golfsmith today when the brand new spider ghost s caught my eye. I putted with it and I really liked it! It felt really good and sets up well. I am thinkin about picking one up but the flow neck version, I'm not that big of a fan of bent shafts. I play 8802 style putters so this would be a big change for me if I get it. I was wondering if anybody else seen this putter yet and if so what do you think of it?

I picked up mine today :)  I really like it.  I didn't think I'd like the sure roll insert but it feels good to me.

The size is good too, slightly smaller than the original spider but a little larger than the itsy bitsy.

The only thing I wasn't impressed with is the velcro in the headcover.  I was hoping it would be magnetic like the other ghost or original headcovers.

Yes the new insert really surprised me but It feels great! I will have try out the flow neck one and then I will make my decision. I never played with a mallet style putter but I think this will be a good one to start off with.

I got this the day it came out, the slant version one like your looking at too as I prefer toe hang putters - I love it!

Had a Ghost Daytona before but this, plus a slightly larger grip and I feel like I'm cheating!

My mate has tried it and is thinking to get one too (admitedly a couple of others didn't like it) but if it suits your style then they are awesome.

I will echo that I was disappointed in the velco clasp on the headcover tho.

The head is loose on my second ghost so I'm looking for a new flat stick. Rolled the new Spider S today as I've been waiting for it to come out. Feel is great but I'm not sure I like the new shaft bend. Just sits a little odd looking to me so it will take a few more sessions at the store to make up my mind. Was hoping it would jump out at me and I'd love it right away.

I still cant make up my mind whether to get the spider s or not. It would be a huge change from my yes sophia 12, but im still thinking about. The putter feels great IMO. I will have to make a few more trips to golfsmith and makeup my mind

Mine is going back.  For some reason I can't line it up the way I can with my original spider.  Not sure if the way the new shaft bent goes into the head has anything to do with it.

I also picked up a Golo S on the BST here that it's working great for me, so I';ll stick with that one.

I think this is it. I was hoping for it to look just like the original Spider and just be smaller. Would like to stick the shaft out of my ghost in one and se how it sets up

The orginal Spider and Itsy Bitsy Spider are both double bend shafts.  The new Ghost S is a  single bend, which puts the shaft more in front of the lead edge the putter face  ( more off set ).

Yeah, I saw the Ghost S the other day at my GG and messed with it. I used to use the regular Ghost Spider and couldn't get over how humungous it was, so I'm loving the Ghost Spider S. Same feel, less busy sight line and smaller head is just really appealing to me.

TM website says 30 degrees toe hang. Can't wait to compare them both. Hopefully soon. TM website says 11/1/2012 for face balanced and 12/1/2012 for slant. Here's to hoping the slant comes earlier than that since the face balanced beat 11/1 by a week or 2.

I got last years model bc I liked the alignment aid better, the larger size, but mostly so I could get it center shafted.

The new headcovers just look cheap to me for some reason too

i putted with the Spider S yesterday, sticking with my original Ghost Spider.  as said above i prefer the double bend shaft on the original, easier for me to square for some reason, felt like i was shutting the face of the S closed and missing left.  i also prefer the larger size of the original, and the fact that the line on the top is black as opposed to white on the S, makes the line a continuous black line with the line i draw on the ball.  still, the S is a nice putter that many will like, it did have a more solid feel to it than the original.

It was an Awesome game. Love my buddy JJ Watt. I'm really liking this putter. I had some reservations about the single bend shaft, but it's not an issue at all. Rolls beautifully.

I have an original spider.........  I love the putter to death and putt very well with it!!  My only complaint is it has grooves in the face.  If there is any top-dressing on the greens and it conditons are damp......the grit is a magnet to those grooves.  It drives me insane trying to keep those grooves clean.  Grit sticks as if attracted by static electricity........LOL

I have no clue what kind of face the Ghost has, but mine has grooves and the grit finds them.......sheesh.   I do love the putter and it's not going anywhere.

I believe no putter with a bent shaft is any good...my reason is you cant spine align the shaft, then twang it for flow.
How can the bend this shaft exactly to get flow of the putter head...sorry they can't.
Choosing a bent putter shaft is more miss than hit in regards to flat line oscillation aka flow, also putter flex varies in 'un-spined' putter shafts, and we all know the steel putter shaft has a spine, so were is it in the head?

In choosing the spider putter I opted for the Itzy bitzy, straight shaft, with neck of 1 shaft width offset, from there I spined the shaft and got flow.
I like a shorter putter 33.5 and a tad more upright, as I hold my hands side on to a Super Stroke slim 30 grip, being a tad shorter, and loosing head feel or swing weight,  I added some lead tape (cut vertically in half) to the weights (one wrap on the toe weight, two wraps on the heal weight)

This is my best accurate (besides Scotty Redx), and controllable putter in years, and its forgiving on slight miss hits

Due to the bigger head (and the orig spider i consider 'to big'), I focus on a smooth back swing and transition to forward stroke,  and it works well...if get a little quick like most people used to a smaller putter heads... your timing will be off, usually a push
The last thing I will mention if you are playing a longer length like a 35" you must be very smooth pendulum like to move the mass...but its technique you will soon dial in I am sure.

I hope Taylormade put some 'faced balanced' straight shaft options out soon too...as well as a sight line that is longer covering the face and further back.
With all this technology like screw in adjustable hosel & weights for drivers,  I feel putters have been overlooked for adjustment.
It would be nice if  stores like Golfsmith add a putter loft n lie bending machine for repair customers, as quite often the 4 deg of loft is not enough for municipal courses,  were greens are slower and the grass is less tightly mowed.

I picked up the slant shaft Ghost Spider S today. I putted with the regular/standard bend shaft and the slant bend styles for about 30 mins at the local golf shop.

Unlike the odyssey putters that have the bend in the shaft, the standard ghost spider S, the shaft is in the way in my opinion. When I set up to the ball I see the bent shaft, other clubs with a similar shaft, i.e. Rossie II the shaft is not in the way. I putted with both styles and went with the "slant" version as the shaft is out of the line of sight.

The standard shaft is a face balanced putter where as the slant version is more of a toe hang putter. (somewhere in between a face-balanced putter and true blade style) I was surprised that I liked the slant version better, for some reason I was able to keep the putter square through impact and it just felt better to me. The standard version with the bent shaft, I kept closing the face through impact, I was surprised that it wasn't easier for me to keep square through impact. I was pulling putts left.

Took the Ghost Spider S Slant to the course and putted on the putting greens for about 45 mins. First round with the new weapon will be in the morning, so far I like how the insert feels, the distance control seems good, it's easy to line up putts, I'm hoping for less than 30 putts/round and I'll be happy.
