NEW BB54
October 26, 2012

BETTINARDI BB54
Material: 6061 Aircraft Grade Aluminum
Finish: Pewter Gray
Dexterity: Right or Left Handed
Shaft: Heel or Center
Weight: 358g

BB54 is designed and built around one of Bettinardi's most popular and successful model, the Baby Bee Accelerator model. The Baby Bee putter captured the 2003 US Open at Olympia Fields, IL. Bettinardi has used modern technology to alter the Baby Bee design concept and has created the most forgiving MOI mallet.
The crucial design element that has changed from the Baby Bee is the addition of a large 303 DASS weighted port located at the rear extremity of the putter resulting in 40% of the total weight. The significance of the weighted port moves the center of gravity dramatically towards the rear of the putter and away from the face. The results are an extremely high MOI ratio making this the most forgiving putter on off center hits. Even on miss hits the ball will travel the same distance while still holding the line. The BB54 will give every golfer the confidence they need to sink that crucial putt.

The features of the BB54:

Milled Windows – 2 milled out windows on the top of the putter which aid in alignment and also reduce weight from the middle and front end of the putter.

Weight Slot - There is a weight slot milled in the sole to remove more material from the front end of the putter. This provides us discretionary weight placement and allows us to move that weight into the 303 DASS weighted port that is set into the rear of the putter.

Bettinardi "T" – The white Bettinardi "T"site line pops in contrast with the pewter gray finish. This will give the golfer an unmistakable edge for ease in alignment.

Face Milling - The face of the BB54 is milled with Bettinardi's patented F.I.T (Feel Impact Technology) Face along with the HoneyComb face. This provides the ultimate in sound and feel for any putter.

Sweet Spot - Enlarged sweet spot is provided by the detailed weight placement of the putter.

Weighted Port - 303 DASS weighted port is inserted and fastened to the rear of the putter by a hex nut. The weighted port accounts for 40% of the total weight.

The technology of the BB54, weight placement, face milling and built in alignment aids will make this one of the most forgiving and sought after putters Bettinardi has ever created.

I posted this because in the Betti putter section I asked for a new Big Ben putter, low and behold it was in the works, as mentioned by the Betti people on this site.
Now they've announced it on their website as well.

Hi Jason-
Thee BB54 will probably be released after the PGA show but I'm hoping for an early release. If anyone is interested in one please let me know and I'll see if Bobby will let me have a few to release early :)

I do have some Tour Prototypes available with a black finish.

For those that don't visit Puttertalk, I've been on the soap box preaching about how great of a putter the new BB-54 is from Bettinardi since acquiring one of the first prototypes back at the Summer Social in June.

To summarize... I used to work with a putter company.  Have owned hundreds of different putters with a revolving door in that position of bag.  I've tried nearly every brand and style.  The BB-54 has simply changed my golf game.  What used to be my weakness is now a strength and the confidence that I have on the greens has spread to other aspects of my game.  I rarely go a round without my playing partners commenting on how well or how much better I'm putting.   My men's league partner has threatened to "kick my a**" if I ever change.  My 3 putting has basically been eliminated and I make more putts, simple as that.  The balance, feel, forgiveness, accuracy, etc. is all unlike any other putter I've tried.  I'm well past the honeymoon stage and the BB-54 is here to stay.

The retail price point is fantastic for the package you get and have already got a few local guys chomping at the bit to get one.

Here are pictures of the putter that I've been using.  I just picked up 2 more for my collection.

My advice... contact Jimmy or Nick and pick one up.  Hope it does the same for your game.

I really wish the production model was black instead of grey. The black finish almost makes me want to pony up the extra $ for one of the protos just for the finish :) I'll probably wait for the production model though.

Can't wait to try one!

Same design, materials, face milling and manufactured at the same location.  No reason it shouldn't.

First round with the BB54 Proto (FIT fact and blue paintfill) today 37, 40 - one three putt that included four birdies, one triple and two doubles (good ball striking day no doubt helped though). Lag putts were good and short ones were holed with confidence. Nice feel overall, but I know it is the honeymoon phase. :blind:

Yes, in my opinion, the Protos look much better from a color standpoint than the stock production models.  That was a factor in my purchase.  The T Line alignment is also nice, which will be on the production model as well.

I was too excited to wait for the retail model. I grabbed one from Bettinardiltd and it is amazing. I knocked my Softtail out of the bag which is a great putter. It is just so stable and rolls the ball so well. The acoustics and the feel are unreal. It is my favorite Betti putter and I have had a few Betti putters. It is seriously the best. I don't think I will let this one out of the possession. I had to grab a center shafted proto.

Jimmy, can the shaft be bent on these to give some forward press?  Think I've figured something out with my stroke and wanted to see if this was possible.

I was in for another fitting a couple weeks ago and I was able to take a tour of the shop. Here are a couple pics of the 54 being milled. What I liked the most was the technology that goes into the putters and $375.000 machines used to mill them. It was a very impressive tour.

Hi - what's the difference between the retail ones coming and the protos? I see the neck is slightly different - what's the rationale for doing a odfferent neck on the retail ones  - is that just a function of easier to produce? Any difference in play or feel? Are there any other differences?

I live in Chicagoland, are there any retail ones to try at the Studio and then get fit for one?

Hi Marco-
We changed the neck so the loft and lie are easier to adjust without bending the shaft. Adding the spud was actually more work but in the end we wanted the retail shops and club fitters to be able to make adjustments less stressful. The finishes, face milling and engravings on the prototypes are more limited but in the end the retail version is the exact same putter.

The 2013 production putters will be available if you schedule a fitting at Studio B.
