TaylorMade announced Rocketbladez irons earlier today, promising a giant leap forward in iron technology. We've hit them here, and they definitely deliver in both distance and consistency. I had scratch player testing them on the launch monitor (stock set that you've seen in the pics) and he averaged 139mph ballspeed with the 6 iron. Hefty distance into the 230s, and very consistent. You could almost here Dustin Johnson saying "That's ridiculous" in the background.
Think the lack of the 'speed pocket' in the sole from the 8 iron through wedge will lead to distance gaps? We didn't see it. 199 average carry. Yeah, not bad.
Of course, as good as they are, this is GolfWRX. So what's said by many members have after a product is announced? "I can't wait to see the Tour version." Well, wait no more.
Here are some product images and photos captured this morning at The Kingdom. Rocketbladez Tour irons: 4, 6, and PW. Also, there are some product images and charts which really tell the story about this iron.
This iron seems to have all better players are looking for including a thinner sole and top line, straighter leading edge and minimal offset. Then you'll notice the sweetspot. It's much larger than traditional players irons. Maybe some of you caught TaylorMade's Sean Toulon with Brian Katrek on PGA Tour Radio this morning. I'm paraphrasing, but if you take that sweetspot that's the size of a dime and make it the size of a quarter, even the better player will notice.
All this, and of course inverted cone technology and 'speed pocket' are carried through to the better player's design as well. More understated graphics round out the package.
KBS Tour is the stock shaft offering. We'll add info as we get it. Enjoy the pics and let us know your thoughts below.
