Had to share and boy was I pumped. Had 1 three punt and 8 one putts. I always shoot to break 90 and end up in 92-96 range. This round just happened and was wonderful.

Congrats,

It is a good feeling to do better than expected. My lowest is 84. However, I am the type of golfer that can go 1- 3 under on the "front 9" then completely implode on the "back 9" - 10 over or worse !

Again congrats, hope you can keep it going and do even better !

Hey, congrats.  My lowest is also 89, but that was a while back and I'm averaging in the 90's.  It's frustrating (and mostly mental) when you can't seem to break that 90 barrier.  I'll meet you in the low 80's soon, though!

I am at about the same level as you OP, usually low 90s and best score 88... So your post gives me hope!  I've always felt that if I could "put it all together" (especially putting) I could break 85, now I know it can be done!  :)

Nice job, good luck breaking 80!

That's wonderful OP. I know how excited you must be, The first time I broke 90 I shot 81.
Perhaps you'll break 80 the same way I did, too....with a 72!
Best wishes!

Congrats on the new low score. My short game and putter improvement helped me a ton this summer. I also shoot to break 90 as my goal every round. I have broke 90 4 times this year with my low as well being a 82. It was on a par 70 course however, and my irons were dialed in like never before. I haven got back close to 82 since. But its nice that it happened with my father in law and two brother in laws present to witness it.

Congrats on your career low...just remember to stay within yourself and play your game...I remember that my previous low was 83 on a so-so shortish course. Playing in my golf club championship final round I was 3 or 4 strokes behind. In the previous rounds i got so caught up with trying to match my playing partners (club selection, agressiveness, etc) that i got out of whack. The final day, i played my game, continued to pull clubs to hit that put me in good position, and also stayed calm. I wound up shooting 74 (1st time breaking 80) and won my club championship.  I shocked myself but also realized what could happen when you play smart.

nice work!!!! now go over your round and try to understand what was different.  SOunds like the putter made the biggest difference so that means if you want to stay there get on that putting green and off of the range.

Congrats!!!!

I know how that feels.  I consistently break 90, but I'm always stuck in the mid 80s.  2 weeks ago i shot an 83, made 4 birdies and had 26 putts.  Shot even par in the front nine and then imploded in the back nine, doh.  I looked at the score card and know exactly what went wrong.  I'll take it as a learning experience and continue to improve.

Nice round.  I'm still trying to break 80.  Took 6 years off from playing (gave up had no time). But started up again mid year in 2011 started as a 25 handicap down to an 11.  I 'm close to breaking a 80. My best round was a 82 with stupid mistakes.  Hope to do it this year. Need a round where it all falls into place.

haha, no, i don't ever look at my score at the turn or at any other time during the round.  what happened was that my playing partners were the ones that told me my score, i had some idea, but didn't actually know, of course i think you're right, it messed with my head.

Nice job OP!  I recently bested my best by 5 strokes, also first time under par.  I've found that there is definitely an adjustment required to deal with the new expectations, but also new confidence in my ability to go lower than in the past (ie. no more urge to protect or panic at a couple under).
