I bought Galaxy Tab 2 7.0 and it has built-in GPS functionality.

I was wondering if I install golf gps app like GOLFSHOT, then how would it perform compared to, say, GOLFSHOT installed in iPhone?

Is built-in gps as good as gps functionality in iPhone with 3G/4G?

You would need an internet connection for it to work.  Maybe tether it through your phone on the golf course?  But then why not just use your phone (assuming you have a smartphone)?  The GPS functionality is all the same.  It will work well but will need an internet connection.

I have Golfshot and loaded it on my iPad and took it out for a round and hated it. It is unwieldy to use in a golf cart, there is nowhere to really put it. Frankly, it was way more trouble than it was worth.

Stick with using it on a phone.

If you've downloaded the course off of wifi or while linked to your home computer, does the use of a golf gps on your smart phone use your data plan?

Use of the gps in itself does not use data. And if the app isn't requesting any kind of data from their server, you shouldn't have any data usage. But to see for yourself, just turn off your mobile data when you are at the course and see if the app still works.

The app will work without data, but you won't be able to see the aerial images of each hole.  The first version of golfshot allows you to download the images ahead of time and save it, but they had to remove it due to copyright issues with google map.
