Ping got passed a long time ago.  They simply havent brought out enough new product to remain competitive and now arent on the same level as TM or Nike.

Tommy Armour, Ben Hogan, MacGregor, Lynx were once considered elite when their tour staff won at the PGA Tour level...last time I checked, Ping still has staff that won at that level (Hunter Mahan), therefore to my logic, they are still considered elite.

Ping is elite.

I put TM, Ping, Titleist in that order as top companies overall, weighted heavily on top player usage and my opinion.

The thing that makes TM the "gotta have it" club of this generation is marketing. They have more players using their equipment because they pay players to do it. Since they were the first with white drivers, when Cobra and others started making white drivers too, casual watchers thought all the pros were switching to TM. I think I have read (on here?) that TM pays a significant tee bounty for using their drivers, so even more pros tee them up. They must also have pretty good performance to keep players using their products. Nike, on the other hand, gets the biggest name on staff which brings a lot of people who wanna be like Tiger or Rory.

On the other hand, if I remember correctly, Ping pays their staffers (or at least used to) based on performance, not just use. Their sponsor contracts have a relatively low base and performance incentives that still don't match what some of the other companies pay just to tee up their equipment, such as TM and Nike. If this is still true, the use of any Ping equipment on the tours must be a reflection on the quality of their product.

Disclaimer: It seems that Mizuno must have a similar setup, since they have relatively few staff players for the superior quality of their equipment.
