Wow, just had my best putting season ever.......with a White Steel putter!  This is going to destroy my confidence :cheesy:

Thank goodness I found the couple of White Steel fanboy posts at the end of this renewed old thread...I was (am) definitely taking the putt less travelled....

I popped a Superstroke SlimLite 3.0 grip on it this winter. It feels really good. Can't wait for the weather to improve so I can use it on the course.
My White Steel 2ball presently has a slightly longer 90g lower half of a Winn belly grip, with a 12g Wishon counterweight cap for seal, and 15g or so I think of extra head weight. Total weight is 602g  but doesn't feel like a hammer at impact. I'm wondering if the heavier upper portion now mitigates some of snap folks apparently don't like on the insert?

I use a modified claw grip (more Mark O'Meara's "saw" grip) so the longer grip is nice for feel. Three or so years ago when had it in the bag (not as modified as now) I was draining everything and I had guys in my men's club ask me to show them the "saw" grip.  Those same guys in my flight I was beating in the honeypot and tournaments regularly started winning everything using that grip. They are still using the grip. :slow_en:  Last year I came out empty, and that's my reason I can't wait to see how it proves itself, now that it is going back in the bag as the gamer!

All time best for me is the copper insert in the ButtonBack or Tei3 putters. The Nike Method is up there alone with the FIT face on the new Betti's are nice too, if that counts as an insert?

Worst would be the Metal X inserts Odyssey came out with a couple years ago. Feels like you're hitting rocks.

I like to try different things with putters, so I would like comment on this question. Does anyone know where to get  putter insert material in the rough, and where to get it?

looking to repair a few oldies and don't know where to look or what to ask for.

Thanks for your feedback

I have my best and worst on the same putter. 2016 Newport has the worst stock insert. It's the same material as the putter head. Had a copper one made to replace the stainless one. Best I've used.

You can find flat stock on ebay, however I highly recommend sourcing an insert already cut to size through Spryevo:  https://www.spryevo.com/

Best Insert is the Pro X insert from Odyssey pictured below. I liked the White Hot Pro insert, but the ProX insert is something truly special.

Glad this thread got bumped. My vote is for anything Tad Moore done with a Copper insert - if we are talking feel and not looks.

If anything, BG has never shied away from experimenting with different polymers for inserts.

The yellow HSM he used in the original Cobra/Grace putters is probably the softest insert I've ever hit:

Posted Image

Some of the other putters also featuring this insert had moderate-milled faces which accounts for much of their softness (e.g. Iceman, Pip-Squeek, Cute Kid, Lo-Pro, etc.) but the 2200 "Softie" pictured had very fine milling so the insert was doing all the work. In tandem with a Slazenger balata you would barely feel anything!
