For at least the first hour of the HD broadcast there is audio but no announcers. It is tremendously enjoying. It is almost like being there because you can hear the gallery, the players chat under their breath after teeing off, the dork saying 'get in the hole' more clearly. It is awesome. Obviously this is a mistake because they aren't able to talk about the sponsors and the MetLife blimp and you cannot hear interviews, but they should consider this approach for an hour on a Friday. If you are watching golf at 3:00 on a Friday, its because you know golf and don't need constant mindless updates.
Oh man is this great. Has anyone else noticed this?

It was like that on the HD channel on both Thursday and Friday, and like you, I really enjoyed it. It definitely gave you the feeling that you were actually there and following the different groups. I never really like how announcers pretty much talk through a player's shot, and it's really refreshing to hear just silence and the noises/conversations from the course. I can remember during one Champions tour event last year, Brad Bryant (I think) was on the 18th hole and stuck behind a tree, and instead of the know-it-all commentators trying to describe what shot he has to hit, how he should play it...etc, TGC just zoomed in on Bart and his caddie. You could actually Bart and his caddie describing in detail the situation and the shot, and it was way more intersting than I think anyone but the player could have described it. I say mic the players and cut theTV staff in half.
