I have not seen the Doc since Sept. He took some more X rays to make sure the hips did not shift and still looked good. He was happy with my gains in strength and flexibility. He essentially has turned me over early on to my PT which I finished up last week. My PT set me up with an 11 page printout of stuff I should do when I go to the gym on my own. Going to go hit the range this weekend again and make a few more swings to see how it feels since I have gained a ton of strength in the last couple weeks.
What I have found is stay away from the obvious anything high impact or sudden change of direction even riding a bike (because of the fall factor). My PT and I pushed it pretty hard but safely. The moment an exercise started to look easy we would add a twist or add resistance, weight etc. We always started low and worked up
When you start to rehab your body will dictate what you can and cannot do. Don't be discouraged at first and keep taking small steps it and you can see big improvement week to week. I finished my PT Friday doing stuff that was absolutely brutal on me just 4 weeks ago and this time it was not overly difficult. Some things I found helped were the weightlessness of the pool and hot tub were a nice break from being stuck in bed or on the couch. As soon as the incisions heal and you are safe to get them wet it is great just to relax in the water. Try to walk as much as you can, it really helps loosen up the hips and lower body.
My main concern with activities was golf which he was fully supportive of, and said is the one activity that fits well with the replacement. There are a few things I want to ask him when I have my next visit in a month but it is safe to say no more snowboarding, basketball, ice hockey etc, really anything involving jumping is not a good idea.
Best of luck to you in December and feel free to fire away if you have any questions or concerns. I will continue to update the thread with my progress

I am finished with my physical therapy sessions so working out solo right now. A lot of work with the rubber bands Lateral movement both standing and squating with bands around the ankles. Some endurance work on the excersise bike, balance squats on the bosu ball, step up/downs forward and backward, plus a standard workout legpress, hamstring, quads etc plus quite a bit of stretching and rotation work.
Swing is starting to feel more comfortable still around 80% I do struggle with my increased rotation at times I had become very stiff at the end and essential jury rigged my swing to be as comfortable as I could make it. I am looking forward to FRI and the fact that I dont have any pain when I swing, but I still need to continue to get stronger and work on the stabiization muscles. Distance control will most likely be my biggest struggle on FRI
How are you feeling now?

I'm able to play but hip feels like I am being stabbed in my joint. I played with swanry who is very active on golfers on Sunday. Dropped a difficult chip on 18 Golf Gods being nice to me. I have always delt with pain but it just has became increasingly more painful. I have been trying to prehab and get in to the best shape I can before surgery. I have some anxiety which is I think is normal about surgery, rehabbing etc. Your journey has been helpful. That would be awesome send reporter. I am surrounded by good people that will help me get back Swanry, Martin Chuck and Aaron Olson down in your area, and Jason Owens up here in Portland, OR. What makes me nervous is that I lose my explosiveness also. Please let me know how your round went! Hit them long and straight. Thanks again keep up the good work.

This is where it all gets complicated! First up, all the surgeons I have seen use the phrase "you will know when you are ready". Basically its viewed as major surgery and they want you to tell them you can't put up with the pain anymore before they go ahead. If you've led a life like me ignoring pain, then the whole concept is tough as golf can be like being stabbed, especially on a downhill lie, but then 90% of a normal day is perfectly bearable, so how much importance do you place on being comfortable at golf?
I have a detached labrum, microfractures and almost non existent internal rotation (not good for a follow through) so I know things won't get better, but then I prefer the idea of resurfacing, yet a lot of doctors are pulling the option whilst the whole metal ion thing gets further airtime.
Just to add that I played great this year, (albeit nowhere near as frequently) with my modified over the top (can't clear left hip) swing seeing me straight down the middle, albeit 10% off on distances compared to a few years back
Decisions, decisions, so great to hear others in the same position

My golf swing definitely has its compensations because of the lack on rotation in the joint and pain when I extend. Golf swing was not my deciding factor for surgery but it was the combination of things being effected that made me decide it is time. I am nervous about procedure, possible side effects, dislocations etc also Never good time for surgery I am 36 years old and also want to be able to play with my two boys age 6 and 3. Hope this info helps.
I hope I can get back to pain free, swinging the clubs around, and chase my dream of making the tour! Kidding about the tour part. Last guy I saw do that lived in a pipe on golf channel.

I will post my results when I get home Friday I will try and get a couple new videos as well. One of the reasons why I wrote this up is when I first started I spent a ton of time online trying to find stories of similar cases and had no luck so I am very happy that this has been even the slightest bit helpfull to others out there going through this. Once I get closer to 100% I really need to get to an instructor and iron out all the bad habits I picked up trying to swing pain free.
