played high school golf for two years, lettered. our team made the district golf tournament my senior year on the strength of a player who graduated the year before. out of five guys on the team that played in the tournament, i finished fourth, and my score counted. we all shot terrible that day, but i was only two shots behind the first three guys who all shot the same score. our #1 guy was surprised i came in with the score i did. i remember i missed several putts i could've made. i seem to perform better under pressure than without it.

been playing high school for 2 years.. If you shoot a bad score in team golf it sombers you more then if you shot bad by yourself. Due to you having 3 other guys on your team working their butts off as well. But whenever our team goes out and finishes in top 3 we are happy. It makes us very close.

It is the best type of golf to play in my opinion, with the greatest highs and the lowest lows.  We played in the regional final of a national inter-club foursomes comp this summer, and I hit a 4 iron 175 yards into a strong wind to five feet on the tiny 18th green when one down in one of the two last games on the course, and I think it will be the shot I'll remember regardless of what other prizes I might win or how long I live.  There is nothing like the adrenaline rush you get in team golf, and I suspect that a huge part of the magic of the RC for such highly decorated and wealthy golfers is the rediscovery of that rush.  It does have the unfortunate effect of massively increasing the impact of playing poorly, as Mahan and Furyk have shown.

I don't think it has to be just golf to be pressure...   lots of team sports that can encapsulate that.

Played high school golf 3 years, basketball 3 years, cross country 3 years. Outside of high school ice hockey 8 or 9 years including college, also on the rodeo team in college. Of all those golf felt the least like a team in terms of team bonding and/or pressure and I was the anchor on the golf team.

Played JV for 2 years then varsity for 2 years.  During my 2nd year of JV, I got to play some varsity matches and sometime my scores counted if one of the varsity guys didn't do well that day.  I was nowhere near being the best player on the team, but I played consistently and rarely had a bad day (or a really good day for that matter).  My school wasn't that good, but I enjoyed playing competitive golf.  It was fun playing at different courses and against different people.

I don't think I felt that much pressure in golf.  I played other sports growing up, so maybe I just don't see golf the same way.  I used to get nervous on the first and last holes, but that was about it.

I fall somewhere in between "I have played serious team golf" and "I was never good enough to get on a team." (What's the difference between "serious" and "not serious" team golf?) I played one year on JV in high school, and then four years in college at a DIII school that has perennially been in the bottom three of a very strong conference.

Varsity 4 years in HS, made regionals junior and senior, was leader after nine and choked on last 4 holes junior year so never made states. Failed to walkon at D1 school after finishing first among all tryouts and beating the qualifying scores of 3 of the guys on the team.

I played four years of high school golf on the varsity team. Played #1 or 2 my last couple years. Nothing says, "Cool," like wearing your Varsity letter jacket with a little golf pin on it. Man, I took a lot of crap for that. :)

I remember two things from those long ago years. I played better against better players and I partied too much my Senior year. Drinking age was 18 then.

I have, so far, played three years on varsity. Currently a senior in high school so ill be playing my fourth this upcoming spring. My freshman year i made the team on the second day of varisty tryouts. My school had our deepest team in its history that year and i was the sixth man. It sucked but i got to go to every tournament including the state finals. The following year i was the 1/2 guy on the team. Had a bad regional tournament and missed the state final by 3 shots. But the following year i made the state finals again. This upcoming year i plan to make the state finals and be effective in the state final

In the spring I'll be starting my 3rd year on varsity (given it is girls golf, so it's pretty easy to get on the team).  I'll be playing the #1 spot.  My experience has not been very "serious" or pressuring.  I think high school golf in general (at least where I live in the mid-atlantic region) is not very serious.

I have played on loads of teams...... in scrambles.  At my peak last season, I could've made my HS team, but I'm 34.  Definitely not good enough for a serious team...

Funny story, I had played golf a good amount of times with my dad, and occasionally barely broke 50.  Bear in mind, this is before the internet, and I don't think I had ever really watched golf on TV, so I had no real understanding of the game aside from the fact I was better than my uncle and dad, my two most common playing partners.  I decided that the HS golf team might be a fun thing, and as a freshman showed up with my macgregor full set from a box and shot something like a 58 during the 9 hole tryout.  I had no clue....even asked the coach if I made the team.... he just rolled his eyes.

Played JV golf for 3 years in high school..couldn't play varsity..had a part time job after school.  Did get to play in quite a few JV matches, but when you are on JV shooting 39-42 most rounds, the competition isn't quite the same as in varsity!!

It was fun though.

I don't like golf being a team sport. I enjoy it because it is one of the few individual sports where you don't need "teammates" to have a good time.
I don't like losing as a team when I post a low number and everyone else on my team plays poorly.
, or vice versa.

Perhaps it is just the wording, but to imply if you have not played team golf one could not understand the pressure is completely false.  I am sure there are many on here like myself who played sports at a high level in a different sport who picked up golf as a low impact game to act as a diversion to the sport of choice.

For me, I played another sport pretty much year round, but in season golf was one of the few activities we were allowed to play because you really couldn't get hurt.  So we played golf.

I also think it was Trevino who said [sic], "Pressure is playing $10 nassau with $5 in your pocket."  Not, "Pressure is playing team golf?"

AND, to be a total DB, if you are talking high school golf, that is not high pressure, it is a game.  High pressure is when you are playing for someone's livelihood (be it your own or your coaches).  High school golf is another diversion until you get to a level of pressure.  Most high school coaches do not coach full time, they do something else and volunteer for about $4/ hour because they love the game.  No pressure there, just a game... sorry.

what college?
I wouldnt call high school golf pressure especially when a vast amount of the kids do not care as colleges do not look at scores as much. However if you normally not playing in tournament golf I see where you get the impression

I don't think I agree with any of this... I played high school basketball, baseball, and golf.  I took up golf a year before my Freshman year in high school and became pretty good in a short period of time.  After my sophomore year I dropped basketball and then baseball after my junior year to just play golf.  There were pressures in every sport... just like some of my best friends faced pressure in wrestling.  Our wrestling program was pretty decorated with 4 State titles in a row.  I played in the State tournament 3 years in a row and of course there was pressure.  It was never about livelihood but something you worked so hard on all year coming to an end with a result attached to it.  I played #1 for a few seasons but I will say I never felt any pressure to perform well for the team.  But I can certainly remember having adrenaline over certain shots just like any other tournament round of golf.
