If anyone watches Storage Wars on AE you know that they bid on abandoned storage units without the ability to see inside them, hoping they get lucky on a good unit. Anyway, just wanted to share my story about my good fortune this past weekend. I just bought a new home with an unfinished room in the basement. This room would be perfect for a net to make an indoor driving range. I decided on thenetreturn and the Vijay Singh mat but I knew I wouldnt be able to afford either for a while since we just bought the house. So last friday I noticed an ad on craigslist for thenetreturn and the Vijay mat for $400 (Both look brand new). I offered $350 and the guy was more than happy with that offer. Here is where the story gets interesting. After meeting him at the storage unit and setting up the netreturn I asked him why he was selling it. He said he buys storage units and sells the contents just like on Storage Wars. He paid a WHOPPING $50 for the unit that was filled with golf clubs, golf bags, thenetreturn and the Vijay mat. He also had other things such as rims and furniture in there. He stated he was up $2k on the unit so far! He was joking around saying he would have taken less than the $350 I offered but I could not be happier with the deal I got! He said its rare for him to get a unit with any golf related items in it but I told him to give me a call whenever he found anything golf related anyway. I'll posts pics as soon as it's set up in the basement!

Great deal!

I hate when I see that show and they find old golf clubs, and say "that's an easy $250". They find golf clubs that you can't give away, you know the typical craigslist listing of spalding woods (made of wood), old cobra baffler blades, and a northwestern putter in a leather bag.

LOL I always see those types of ads. Makes me laugh everytime I see it. I wonder if anyone actually buys them though.

That's pretty cool.  I second the sentiment towards the older clubs and people selling them.  Too many people think golf and immediately think expensive. So not the case.
I mean, I like golf balls
but not that much.

I have 8 foot ceilings and it's just enough to swing my driver but my irons are no problem at all. 9 foot ceilings would be ideal!

I have 9 foot in my living room and I can do driver no problem, although once i tried getting fancy with a high follow through a-la Jim Thorpe and I hit the ceiling. I don't do that anymore...

Originally I thought I had 9 foot ceilings but seeing as how thenetreturn is 7.5' tall and I only have about 6" of clearance Im going to take a wild guess and say its only 8'. It should do everything I want it to do though. Just a place to hit some balls and drink some beers with the fellas while watching some football this winter!

Show is completely fake and staged FWIW, along with Pawn Stars and American Pickers and just about every other "Reality" tv show.

or Brando. I love that show. Barry hardly ever makes any money, I think Brandi is hot, and I'm surprised someone hasn't  put the YUUUUP man six feet under. I wish that damn auctioneer would drop the hammer early once in a while so Hester couldn't always pipe up at the last minute. I think if someone constantly pulled that at the auto auctions they'd run his a** over in one of the lanes.

I know they're staged and fake and setup and whatnot, but what the hell, I like it.

Anyone who believes those shows are real...........................I have some ocean front land in Oklahoma I'd let go very cheap!!!!

Storage Wars:
"Oh, look what i found in the midst of all the total junk......a $5,000 16th century neckless"..............really?

Pawn Stars:
"Oh, just happen to have Al Capones underwear. It's from my great mother and has been in the family for 78 years and I'm only asking $250,000".
"Do you have any documentation that Al actually wore this underwear?"
"Well, no, but it's from my grandmothers cedar chest"
"There's a signature on the tag, do you mind if we call someone to authenticate that signature?"
"no, that's a good idea"
later--------------------------------------
"I'm sorry, but that is not Al Capones signature, the "p" in Capone is all wrong, I'm sorry but it's a fake.  We see lots of fakes of Al's underwear"
as he walks away................
"I don't think that guy knows what he's talking about......I'll keep the underwear in my family since I know it's real"

I don't think they have to do much to stage or fake that show. Just let the cameras roll, let the people come in and you have a show.

My Dad owns a mini storage place. They have auctions every three-four months for people who don't pay their bill. Ever since this show started the auction prices have doubled..haha.

I know a guy who owns several units and he says it is crazy what folks will store in them. They seem to think it is safer than a bank. He can't bid on them but a guy we both know has bought some. The show isn't as far fetched as you think.......

If you aren't making money you probably have no knowledge of the unit contents value or no self control. He said there are certain things that folks go crazy over that have no value.

I think he did. He doesn't have his huge auction/warehouse anymore and seems to buy way less units.

I think he tried to expand to fast and it cost him based on some clips I saw of him talking about a huge space he tried to lease or something.
