Here goes the Golf Channel again with another "dream" show. The last one was "Pipe Dream" with homeless bum Mark Burk who could not even break 85. Now Golf Channel does it again with two other guys. One is some business owner I know nothing about. The other guy is Robbie Biershenk, AKA "Shank" from Big Break Indian Wells. As usual, it's a show about two guys trying to make it on to the PGA Tour. From what I remember, Shank was a terrible player and I think was on the show for entertainment value. He's of those goofy immature guys that talks a lot and you want to just tell him to shut up after a few minutes. His odds of making it on the PGA Tour are about as good as mine....zip. He has a younger brother who's 100X better than him. So obviously Shank is on the show for entertainment, that's all.

As long as they don't bring back Brian Skatell, cocky player, that couldn't preform at all, and had an excuse for everything! Im cool with it.

I think Gary Woodland would be a great pro to feature on the show "Chasing the Dream". Maybe next season.

If they want to do a "Chasing the Dream" show, why don't they just pick a guy that runs around and tries to Monday qualify for tournaments.  That would be interesting.

I break 85 all the time.  I'd like to be on a new 'Pipedream' show... and if you need somebody to corroborate that I am mentally ill, well my wife will do that......

I know how to shank the S@&# out of stuff, too.

Just sayin'.

GRREEEAAT Idea! I know a club pro that makes the rounds on Monday qualifiers, and he has some really cool stories - about the herding of contestants (like 300 golfers trying to win 7 spots), how good the pros REALLY are, the media hype, how the golf tourneys are filmed, and on and on... That would be a great idea!!

I think this is a much better idea for a show than the one with Mark Burk.  I live in Greenville, South Carolina where Robbie Biershenk runs a driving range.  The guy can hit the ball some incredible distances and has put up some decent scores on the mini-tours.  He's typically low-mid 70's.  While that is still a far cry from the PGA Tour, at least he has a reasonably good game.  The problem with Mark Burk was that he was living in a fantasy world....no way he could make it big with his game.  With Biershenk, I can at least fathom that he has a chance.

Let me guess... most of the show is ... poor me, my story of being a loser, boo hoo hoo... a few glimmers of hope (because of editing and suspiciously convenient "breaks" that are totally not rigged by TGC *cough*), and then in the end, disappointment of not making squat happen with a whole show dedicated to... I'll make it one day, I wont give up, boo hoo hoo.  THE END.

Sum it up?

They should do a young kid straight out of college with some major credentials. A good example would be Eugene Wong who won the Junior World, had a great career at Oregon, and just won 3 tournaments in a row on the Canadian Tour. It would be fun to get an insight to a young accomplished player looking to somehow breakthrough on the big tour instead of some middle aged driving range pro that doesn't stand a chance.

Totally agree.  The concept of the show is definitely something I would be interested in watching just not with the two guys they selected to base the show on.  Eventually it comes down to a point where you either have the mental makeup to play competitve professional tournament golf or you don't.  No amount of practice and determination is going to make a difference to push you over the edge.  These two haven't realised that yet and GC is exploiting them because they know they can orchestrate an emotional based fairy tale that will draw an audience who naively believes the no quit attitude will always win the day.

Look, we all know what game you need to make the big boy tour. Heck, I'm 65 with an 8 hdcp. Watching the Burks of the world does nothing for me, The point is, I'd love to see them get 2, 3 or 4 young guys that are close, really close and show what/how their lives are like, how they are practicing, working and developing their games. I don't care about these 'chasing the dream guys.' They are not chasing a dream they're delusional. Want a reality show? Then put some guys on with a real chance. Let us see the fine line between success and close. Watched a qualifier once. Man, I was heartbroken ( and I'm no bleeding heart) for the guys that did not make it. One bad choice, one bad shot, one missed 4 footer and it's curtains till the next one. Now that's chasing a dream!

He Monday qualified something like 8 or 9 weeks in a row in mid season.

The interaction between both characters on the putting green was cringe worthy.  Pretending like they did not know each other and then pairing up for a game?  I guess the producers think the audience is a bunch of idiots....

Like their tournament coverage, NBC made the show unwatchable with so many commercials.

I do give Robbie a pass because he got screwed by big break officials with that ludicrous ruling they gave his opponent in the bunker.
