Anyone have a good game to play with 12 players going on a trip with 3 rounds planned? Many different skill levels of golfers invloved. Any suggestions would be great.

Thanks

We have played a Ryder Cup format with this size of group many times and it works out great. Best ball, alternate shot, medalist round, etc. You would go 6 against 6. It is very competitive and really gets the competitive juices and banter going. We use handicaps, so it evens everything out when you have different levels of golfers. On top of that, you can do a lot of side bets per round.

Thanks for the input. I like the Ryder Cup idea.

We also play a game we like to call "on the spot". Easy. Everyone starts with $20 1 dollar bills in a beer cup in the cart. Bets can be made at anytime for any amount. ie. I bet you 5 bucks that I beat you on this hole. i bet $2 bucks that you dont sink this put, I bet you $10 that you dont hit the green (par 3) etc. Player has option to accept or decline bet. Bet must be paid after result. Once your $20 is gone you cannot replenish until next round. Players must bet at least $10 throughout the round. Great fun, adds a little pressure to certain situations but can be rewarding.

That actually sounds like a fun idea. I might have to try that the next time out. I could see some crazy bets being made in my group - "I bet you cant hook it around that tree and still make it on to the green... I bet you cant make a par or better with just your 6 iron on this hole"... Thanks for the idea.

Last weekend I played with a group of guys that have had a Saturday morning skins game for le last 20 years. There game is simple, but fun. Each man puts 20 into the pot. They then play a skins game without carry overs, but they add 6 extra skins (4 closest to the pins on par 3s, and one for low score for the front side and low back). You also get 5 bucks from everyone if you make an eagle. They then also have an option two man best ball you can get in. They match you up based on handicap and you play for 10 bucks. Each group tends to play their own game as well. The standard game within the group tends to be progressive birdies and 6 hole teams. So the first birdie is a dollar, the second is 2, the third is 4, etc, etc. With 6 hole teams, you switch partners within your group every 6 holes so you play on the same team with each player at least once during the match.

I've been thinking of holding a Ryder Cup event at my club with the usual guys...

Anyone have any ideas/suggestions on gag items that a losing team would have to sport for the remainder of the year? (i.e. something that would have to be placed on a golf bag that would be sure to raise eyebrows...something hilarious would be preferred)

Thanks!
