Talked to our Callaway rep yesterday...asked him about price point ...and he claimed he did not know..also said they will be completely revamping their iron offerings...but I guess that is no big surprise...let's hope these things rock!!!!

I think $150 would be the sweet spot for this club. At least I'm hoping.

How forgiving do people expect them to be. Like a GI iron ?

I doubt they will have GI type of forgiveness, but I'm sure they are much more forgiving then the butterknifes that I am currently playing with.

On the subject of Callaway, what is this recently filed patent drawing (expanding on another patent it looks like) all about?  3 adjustable weights in the sole, but what looks more like a Razr Hawk head.

These will be around the 200 mark to buy. I think they are a great idea and to be honest will be just as good as a hybrid if not better. Like playing a driving iron only better. Left hand versions I hope I will take an 18 and 21.

$200 sounds like a more reasonable price point to me as well.  Prices are only going up these days.  I'd love to try one of these out.

More reasonable, no; more likely, yes.  But at that price, I would be more likely to go with the Mizuno MP Fli Hi or the rumored Titleist offering.  Still haven't given up on Callaway however.

What have the hosel dimensions been on the protos seen so far with the tour-released clubs?

If one was spotted with a c taper it is either .355taper or .370 parallel

Um, with graphite it will be HIGHER than 200.  You gotta figure 189 steel, 219-229 graphite.

i have had a chance to hit the 21 degree for the last 3  weeks several times. You have to reset your thought process, as this is not a typical driving iron utility.  IT is as easy to hit as most hybrids of the same loft, but the turf interaction is much more efficient.   It has the most satisfying feel at impact ,  and shot results of any comparable club I have ever hit in that loft range.  It is very workable,  but set up neutral and stripe it and a mid trajectory razr like bullet will go straight at the target.  Also with the unique sole grind it is also good for chips around the green on certain occasions.

Great news.  I had a chance to hit a 21 degree with a KBS C taper shaft.  The feel is amazing, as is the turf interaction.  The head is also not as long or as big as it looks on the photos on the web. It frames nicely  behind the ball.   It is a very forgiving club , and IMO is easier to control than a hybrid of the same loft.   If you have hit an Exotics CB1 FW the utility proto has the same explosive feel/click at impact.  The sole grind is what makes this club special.  You know how easy it is to hit irons on new range mats, where the club sort of glides into the ball, That is what you get with the X utility. I have hit it on both bent and bermuda FWS, and it is equally good on both types of grass.  It will be interesting to see what shaft options are offered. The weight in the sole is smaller than the RAZR Fit weights ( 8 grams in the one I hit),  but is compatible with the wrench.  I used to use the CGB utility that IS JAPAN only. The X proto is in a different league.  I wonder if they will offer an additional loft of 27 degrees when it comes to retail.

Sold. I'll take three with the c tapers. Stoked to hear these are coming out soon.

Man this stick is sounds almost perfect.  Good bye long irons for me...

For some reason, I see these things being a bit pricey. Everything now a days is well over the $220 mark.  I just have that feeling that we're going to be spending a decent amount of scratch for one.  $250-$275 + tax.

I have that feeling that you are right.  With EE winning the Open with these I would expect Cally to price these a little higher than recent offerings.  It will be interesting in seeing the shaft offerings the have for this too.

Once this club is available for demo,  they will sell these in droves.  To add a more real world spin on this.....  The club Ive been hitting is a tour prototype.  I just hope it is not dumbed down for retail or cheaper materials used in mass production.  hopefully the initial launch is the TA line with no compromise in the design.

No. That is too high. With the wholesale prices being what they are, expect the prices to be very near what I posted earlier.

If they attach this club to the TA line it will be very high.  I would think $250 may be spot on.

i hope I'm wrong, considering I really want to have one of these in the bag.  This club is going to be just lile the Superfasst 2.0 line.  Once it was released, I feel like everyone and their mothers, daughters, fathers, sons, brothers, sisters etc had one.  Callaway might have the hottest club in the making! Since I only play 3 wood, 5 wood, 4-PW, 60,56,52, I have a spot in my bad for this without taking anything out.  Long story short, I'm overly excited.  I've regretted not getting my AP2's 3-pw and have been looking for that club to add to make my bag have 14 pieces.

If you all are in fact correct about the price then they can have it!  That is more than nuts and over the top....a rip really.  I'm in for the fli hi in that event...and I play cally just about all the way through.

I've never hit any type of "driving iron" but I have heard nothing but GREAT things.  I'm not sure you can even call the Callaway a driving iron.
