I just talked to a sales rep at Callaway pre-owned and he said that Chip was in town last week and confirmed that the X prototype utility is coming to retail in the next few months.  FYI..

i wish i had a press release or something more concrete,  but i felt like some of you would like to know....

Great news.  I had a chance to hit a 21 degree with a KBS C taper shaft.  The feel is amazing, as is the turf interaction.  The head is also not as long or as big as it looks on the photos on the web. It frames nicely  behind the ball.   It is a very forgiving club , and IMO is easier to control than a hybrid of the same loft.   If you have hit an Exotics CB1 FW the utility proto has the same explosive feel/click at impact.  The sole grind is what makes this club special.  You know how easy it is to hit irons on new range mats, where the club sort of glides into the ball, That is what you get with the X utility. I have hit it on both bent and bermuda FWS, and it is equally good on both types of grass.  It will be interesting to see what shaft options are offered. The weight in the sole is smaller than the RAZR Fit weights ( 8 grams in the one I hit),  but is compatible with the wrench.  I used to use the CGB utility that IS JAPAN only. The X proto is in a different league.  I wonder if they will offer an additional loft of 27 degrees when it comes to retail.

Saw Els hit one on 7 on the Black today. Couldn't tell which one it was but he crushed it. Almost made eagle.

No more hybrids for me once these come out.  I may finally be able to bench my long irons for good now.

But you can hit your long irons...but I get why you would do it.

The problems rise when I am in the rough or I get an ood ball lie with a long iron, I pay the price.  I just cannot seem to dial in my distances with hybrids so I have stuck with long irons.  These utilities seem like they will be the best of both worlds.

The weights are smaller in the utilities unfortunately.  That is directly from another member who has hit it already.

Talked to our Callaway rep yesterday...asked him about price point ...and he claimed he did not know..also said they will be completely revamping their iron offerings...but I guess that is no big surprise...let's hope these things rock!!!!

Their X Muscleback irons are probably the best blades on the market appealing to better players.  I do agree with you when it comes to the drivers, fwys and hybrids.  It looks as if they are listening and will be delivering...

In a few months when the golf season is all but dead???...(for me anyway)...  Booo on you Callaway!    I'm not willing to wait so I ended up ordering a Yonex Zero 18* w/ Matrix Program 95.
