The testing has been completed.  I think if a player is trying to win a tournament, "testing" a ball is not in their favor.  They have already done their testing and now believe in it enough to put into play.  I did receive my "test" sleeve last week and I don't really think Titleist cares about my thoughts on the ball.  If the pros use the ball, they know the general public will play it without question.

I was pretty pleased with the durability, I got a little more play outta it than usual. I even used one tonight on the practice green and didn't see any marks.

Got a sleeve of the new V1 test balls (black numbers so I assume non-X), yet haven't had a chance to test them yet.  I will compare them against TP5, which has been my gamer this year.  I would have preferred to try the V1X (red numbers), but who's knows... I may find something I like that I would have never given a try.  I'll keep you guys posted....

Been playing with the red numbered one. I've been comparing it against the ProV1X. It's the exact same ball.

As said before, they (PGA tourer) can not play with test ball in PGA Tour tournament anyway. Test ball is not on the list.

I got a sleeve of "Test" ProV's and took them out to Torrey Pines on Saturday.

I didn't see huge distance gain or crazy spin around the green, but the cover did hold up better. I hit a couple thin shots and couple bunker shots that would have scuffed the previous ProV's but this ball cover's didn't show much damage.

I don't think I will make the switch to Titleist from Callaway Hex Black Tour High Numbers (http://www.fairwaygo...ls-p-26791.html), but it's nice to see that Titleist is making a more durable ball (considering they are the most expensive golf ball).

I'm having the opposite results as far as durability goes. The current ProV1X is holding up better than the test ProV1X for me

What I am saying is that the "test" ball sent out to Joe Schmo is the new ProV1 the tour players are already using.  They send out a "test" ball to the general public to make them think that our opinion is important on how the ball performs but in reality, the testing is already done.  Mine says "test" the pro's says ProV1(x).

I recieved the test ball as well. Seems to perform a lot like the ProV1 but maybe holds up just a little bit better. Feels a touch more solid off the face as well but no major changes.

I think eventually they are going to merge V1 and V1X into one ball like Callaway did with the iS and iZ into the Hex black. Maybe Titleist has a 5 piece? 6 piece? 12 piece?

I concur.  Eventually they'll have something that fits everyone.

Played a little with the red number one. Its longer on average than V1X feels a  little firmer. Not like a rock or anything but you can feel a little diffrence with the driver. The main thing Im impressed with so far is Ive yet to shred it with a wedge. Now I haven't sat there and hit wedge after wedge but during a normal round It shows no scuffs as of yet. Gave the other two to my playing partners and they agree its a definite improvement. I wouldn't say its game changing like Im sure they'll advertise but its a better ball for sure.

Titleist has been field testing golf balls with their staff players since about Quail Hollow.

Below are a couple of photos but they are not ready to pass out any info on the ball or it's specs/playing characteristics.

Greg
The new alls are going back to similar specs for the 2009 version of the balls. The V1 & V1x will have more of a difference between them. The V1x will have slightly less spin than current ball. The V1 will spin a bit more. both should stay brighter white longer and be somewhat more scuff resistant.

Just got my tester sleeve from Titleist but with this Pacific NorthWest weather, there's no chance I get to swing those until Spring, unless I can get out of state; heck, get out of the region, actually.
