If my eyes were attracted to a certain design, I would typically lean toward whatever Scotty's version of that design was. I must confess that I'm a sucker for big marketing, and nobody does marketing like Titleist/Scotty, except for maybe Odyssey. I've most recently been gaming a 2012 Sonoma, and I've had some of my best putting rounds with it. However, there's a change on the horizon...
Another confession: I've never, ever considered Bettinardi as a putter that I would game. It's not because I've ever thought Bettinardi to be a slouch in the putter game. In fact, I've always been pretty aware of its reputation and faithful following here on WRX. The cause for my former paradigm of Bettinardi putters remains a mystery. But allow me to stress the words "former paradigm." I recently came across a BST ad for the sale of a Bettinardi BB28 Prototype Blade w/ a flow neck. From what I've read, it was presented at the 2011 Bettinardi Summer Social. By the way, if anyone knows how to get invited to one of those socials, spill the beans; I want to know! Anyway, all I can say is OH-EM-GEE. No putter has suited my eye as much as this one. This is love at first sight. See, what my eyes agree most with on the Sonoma's design is the soft, rounded back corners on the flange. In addition, I really like high-toe putters, and I need, need, need a flow neck. The Sonoma is almost the perfect putter for me. But I would always find myself thinking, "Man, I wish this putter [Sonoma] was more of a blade." Then a couple of days ago, when I came across the pics of the BB28 Proto Blade, my jaw dropped. This is exactly what I've been waiting for. I haven't even received the putter from the seller yet, but I'm super pumped. I have never been more excited about a putter than this one. Even now, I'm biting my lips in hopeful anticipation as I write this. I feel like I will be gaming this putter for years to come. Even the toe-hang is suited for my stroke. And since it's a DASS, I'm pretty sure the feel will be spectacular. At least that's what I've read.
Since it's a 2011 edition Bettinardi, I must apologize to those of you who consider this putter old news. But I feel like I'm justified in my excitement. All you Betti lovers, hit me up and let me know I'm doing the right thing here by giving a Betti a chance for the first time. I'll update this thread as soon as I receive the putter and take it for a spin on a practice green.
