Last year, Simpson was T2 and three shots off the lead after the second round.
There have been seven different winners of the Wyndham Championship from an ACC school. Of that group, David Love III is the only one to win twice in Greensboro.

Tim Clark
North Carolina State’s Tim Clark is making his seventh start in the Wyndham Championship, and first since finishing T6 in 2008.
Clark, who made just four starts in 2011 due to an elbow injury and tendonitis, is making his 16th start of the season. He is coming off a T11 at last week’s PGA Championship.

So far this year, a second-round leader has parlayed that position into victory just seven times in 35 stroke-play events. The most recent to do so was Scott Piercy at the RBC Canadian Open last month.
Tim Herron (T47)
Herron’s 61 in the second round tied the course record (Arjun Atwal/2010, Kevin Na/2010 and Carl Pettersson/2008) and also tied his personal best score on TOUR (2003 Humana Challenge).
Herron had one bogey (No. 6) and five consecutive birdies (No. 13-17).

Several architectural changes have also been made to the course. These include the addition of three bunkers at #5 greens complex: one short left and two back right; an additional bunker directly behind #15 green; the creation of a deeper swale left of #15 green maintained at primary rough height; and finally the repositioning of the cart path left of #5 green deeper into the woods providing additional room in the form of primary rough left of the approach.
