Title says it all. I have credit on a website where I want to buy some Lunar Controls but I need to go into a retail store (golfsmith, golf galaxy) and see what size fits best. I just feel guilty knowing that I'm trying on shoes, sending the salesperson back to get different sizes, and knowing all along that I won't be buying them from that store.

I need a good excuse at least, I feel guilty and I probably shouldn't, damn my conscience.

Dude, after working retail for years, I can promise you a salesman would appreciate your honesty. Just tell the truth. We all hear enough BS without a guy scheming as well.

I frequently shop at Golfsmith since there's no other choice in Austin, TX (their main headquarters) With that said, my shopping is  generally done with zero assistance from the sales staff.  They seem uninterested in helping.  I worked the retail floor at Goldsmith in my younger years and remember management constantly telling us to make contact with customers and we did just that.  I would never feel bad about walking away from a sale as a consumer.  It's my money, I'll decide where I want to spend it.  If they don't want people trying their stuff, then don't leave it out for people to try.

I know all the Dicks Sporting Goods in my area have them. All the shoes are there to try on so you could help yourself instead of feeling guilty.

I used to work in a local shop.  I can't tell you how many cheap azz Floridians would come in and do this.  After trying on about 10 pair they would write down the name and style of what they liked and then leave.  Then the owner would get on me and ask me why I didn't make the sale.  That's why it would piss me off.  Glad to be out of the golf business!

Yep, I work at kohls and it's frustrating when a customers ask for a couple different pair to try on but I know I'd do the same so I try not to get to pissed?

Just go to a store that has all the shoe boxes out on the floor.  That way you don't have to ask an employee to keep bringing you different shoes in various sizes.

I can guarantee you people do this all the time. They know about it and don't care. It's not like the salesperson makes a commission on the shoes. Either way, what other option do you have? They'll understand if you tell them although I just did this a week ago and didn't say anything. For all they know I'm in the market for new shoes but not ready to pull the trigger yet.

I just did it with a pair of Adidas Crossflex.  My local shop didn't have them in my size in stock, so I went to Dick's and tried them on.  I will be going Monday or Tuesday back to my local shop to order them in my size.  There wasn't even a person working in the golf section at Dick's when I went there, not that it would have stopped me, but a lot of places like Dick's, Golfsmith, Golf Galaxy, etc.. have little employee presence in the footwear section.  At least in my experience.

If you have had a previous pair of Nike's, get the same size. I find that all Nike shoes whether golf,running,tennis etc are all the same.

This is true, I have probably worn 30 pairs of nikes in my adult life between, basketball, golf, running and tennis.  Always a size 10.  That said if you want to try them on, just go to the store it happens all the time.

I've done it a ton of times.  Most of the time the shoes are out (at places like golf galaxy/golfsmith) and it's a help yourself type of situation.  I just grab the box, and try them on.

If someone does need to help you, just say you want to try them on.  Once you find the right size, just tell them that they weren't as comfortable as you thought theyd be.  Say you're not interested and THANK them for the help.

too narrow, you don't have these in extra wide, or I love these but you dont have them in brown and orange/  or  the open special colour scheme etc

Just nicely ask your favorite retail guy if he will match the sale price advertised at an online retailer- research and give them a $ number- they often will match it rather than lose the business. If you are a good customer, they will do it to keep you coming in and buying their other golf stuff. If they don't they won't stay in business. You'll save on shipping as well.

Both Golfsmith and the PGA TSS here both have all of their shoes out on the floor so one can fit themselves.

The Golfers Warehouse nearest my house has all the shoes out on the floor with no need to ask associates for different sizes. Like others have said find a store that offers this then you won't feel bad.

Just go in, try them on, and if the salesperson starts pressuring you into buying tell him or her that you're looking to buy online and wanted to make sure they fit.

No shame in it and no sense in lying. Hell, I do it with clubs I see for sale on here all the time. Go to golfsmith, hit the club, and then decide if I want to buy it from online.

This is usually true.  If you can provide truth of the sale price, most companies (especially big box stores) will match it.
