Ichiro is a shell of his former self and the Mariners made the right move getting rid of him. The last thing the organization wanted to do is wait until his contract expired and then feel obligated to pay him way too much money for his time in Seattle. Not to mention he approached the front office weeks before his departure to let them know he wanted to be traded, preferably to a title contendor and who could blame him.
I'm a die hard Mariner fan and often have the debate with my friends who are Mariner fans as well on whether or not we should trade Felix. Get something for him now or watch him walk? My friends assure me that Felix loves Seattle and wants to stay but why in the hell would he? Sure the organization might have some young pillars in place to eventually get them to win the A.L. West but that's what, 2, 3, 5 years away? I just can't see Felix staying in Seattle as competitive as he is knowing that he'll probably never make it to the World Series.

That's funny because Ichiro seems to be doing just fine now on the Yankees
Every single notable player that has ever left Seattle to play on another team does better then they did with the Mariners, that's just a fact. The ballparks have a lot to do with it too. Safeco field mind as well be a graveyard for hitters.

I spent a week in Kirkland/Seattle in June and fell in love with the city and the Mariners!
I REALLY want one of those gold King Felix crown T-shirts!
