What's in the bag of the PGA Champion this week. Per Titleist Tour Blog:

“It's just been incredible," McIlroy said after his final-round 66. "I had a good feeling about it at the start. I never imagined to do this.”

McIlroy led the field in Driving Distance with a 311.5 yard average off the tee, and his win marks the first major championship with the new Titleist 913 prototype driver and the first 913 win on the 2012 PGA Tour. Titleist began the seeding process of the 913D2 and 913D3 prototype drivers with PGA Tour players at the AT&T National in June, which was subsequently followed by player seeding on the European, Web.com and Asian Tours, and across all of the major worldwide professional tours.

In early July, Rory worked closely with the Titleist tour support team in advance of the Irish Open to get dialed-in with his new prototype 913 driver and immediately put it into the bag after the fitting session.

Ball: Titleist Pro V1x
Driver: Prototype 913D3 8.5º (Mitsubishi Diamana Prototype 70X), C•2 SureFit Tour setting
Fairway Metals: 906F2 & Titleist 910F 17º (Fujikura ZCom Pro 95)
Irons: Titleist MB 3-9 (True Temper Project X 7.0)
Wedge: Vokey Design SM4 46º, 54º, 60º (True Temper Project X 6.5)
Putter: Scotty Cameron Newport GSS prototype

Many, many pros do this, i.e. PW (46-48*) then SW (54-56*), LW (58-62*) without a gap wedge.  Poulter is PW, 54 then 62.

Is the "proto" driver shaft the new Diamana plus D series? Or, something else?

They are so getting at hitting "feel" shots with their wedges. It's better for them to use that 14th spot for a long iron/ hybrid and have even gaps for their full swing clubs and then work with the gap at the bottom of the bag.

Yeah, awesome pics!!  Yes, the highly skilled players are so adept at the "feel" shots it's awesome to watch.  Unlike us "hacks" (myself included) that used a 45/50/54/58 wedge.  Good grief.

From what I've read, the D3 and D2 have same launch characteristics......the D3 is for shaping while D2 is slightly more forgiving.....having 445cc that gives good launch has my name all over it!!!!

The 46-08 SM4 bent to 47 is one of the best PW I have ever hit.  Starting to like more and more bounce, easier to deal with too much than not enough IMO.

The comment on Poulter's wedges is intrigueing.......

Theoretically speaking wouldn't the higher lofted clubs require a greater gap in order to create the typical 10 yard gap?

Either way when it comes to shots within 100yrds, these guys are manipulating trajectory and spin more so than with full shots.

D+ series has a little hire torque 3.1 vs 2.7 than ahina. He was killin it.  He play it at 45"?  His setting is c2, .75 up right interesting.

Wedges aren't oil can.  He did an interview a few weeks back and mentioned how he liked the new finish. (he use to have oil can when the SM4s first came out)

Looks like a torch finish like duck mentioned.  Great to see him doing well!!

I can't get over the look of the 712 MBs. Just gorgeous! They'll be next in the bag. Those Vokeys have a stunning finish too.

Does anyone know the length of his putter?

Thought thats what he was hitting?  I would be curious to his specs then.  Granted you could put a concret shaft in it, and he'd still game the hell out of it.

Well I'm thinking he's playing it at 44.5 because he stands under 6ft, his swing is on the flatter side, and he's playing the driver upright. A 45" driver would look really awkward playing upright on a guy his size.

His 913 D3/Diamana Prototype C-2 setting (-0.75° loft, 0.75° upright lie) is 45.5"

The same length he played his 910 D2/Rombax 7V05 setup.

I know people seem to be sure this isn't the D+ Diamana, but something with a little higher torque number would not surprise me in the slightest. He bombed that 7V05 for quite a while, and that's not the world's stiffest/lowest launch combo either.

I was going to say that he did an interview a few months back where I thought that he said he played a 46. But 45.5 is probably what it was. But it was longer than 45 for sure.

It may not be a D+, but it sure looks like it.  Are we positive that it is not?  It wonder if we sent a note to Titleist if they would send out the info?  It may also be a strategy similar to what TaylorMade used to do with the R11 with using like graphics on shafts so we feel like we are playing what young Rory is hitting we all buy the 913's.
