Another +7 at PGA Championship to match his horrendous showing at The Open and very shady year to date:
European Tour
CUT, 9, 13, 7, 15, CUT, 70, 29
PGA Tour
9, 20, 44, 15, 15, CUT, 29, 143

Kaymer's my boy and all...but he's now down to #21 from #4, this time last year. For that 6-8 month period following his win at the PGA Championship in 2010, he looked almost perfect.

Has this guy's game gone or is he injured? It can't all be down to changing his swing to draw the ball, surely?

He changed the caddie as well (now is back). Maybe confidence.

He made a swing change that hasn't worked out for him.  He wanted to be a more right to left player.

Messed with his swing then lost his confidence. He'll be back though, too good to continue like this

Has he really played an equal number of events on the Euro and US tours? He has made some swing changes that didn't work out and chopped and changed his putter from the Anser he had to I think a 2 ball now.

Swing chances for one, but I think that's not really the reason. He was a really good pressure putter from mid range and this ability has deserted him completely. How this can be at such a young age, I don't know, but I have seen a few European Tour events in which he was shockingly bad with the putter.
When he came onto the scene, I would never have thought that this could happen. Normally, German athletes have a cunning abilty to be clutch, to always convert when it matters most and he certainly seemed to be this way, and very level headed as well.
Let's not forget that he won a WGC event as recently as November 2011 by shooting 63 in the final round, with a 29 on the back 9. What happened to him afterwards, over the European winter, is really a mystery. But right now, he looks lost.

Tell that to Faldo and Woods. They both changed their swings after winning majors.

But it is a dangerous thing to do.

Read in the PGA thread he tried to change his swing to better suit a draw for this year's Masters, & it didnt' work.  Also, the caddy.

yep....but you can also Tell that to Craig Perks.  I know he did not win a major (players)....but he is the classic case of demise when he wins a big one (major swing change).   I think we are looking at an Ian Baker Finch here.........see ya Martin.....enjoy those tread marks on your back.

and it's a lot harder when you win a major and then abandon a swing that helped you get it.........

I don't like Bubba. I had forgotten it was him in the playoff until a few weeks ago.

Sure, he had a stroke of luck with DJ grounding his club, but he clutch-putted on the 2nd playoff hole and played a very smart 3rd playoff hole to win that Major.

But he was in contention all year: Top-10 finishes in both US Open and The Open. He won 4 other titles, had 3 other Top-5 finishes and seemed to be in contention all the time.
Even after the swing-tinkering for The Masters in 2011, he was still winning and finishing Top-5, Top-10

You don't just all of a sudden go "Oh, golf is hard" when you've hit that level...

They had a stoke of fortune. Kaymer then well earned the Major in the playoff

He just need some more time to recover and have the swing back, you know, it´s a process ;)

He said in interviews he was more excited to have gotten a spot on the Ryder Cup team.  His caddy had to remind him he still had a chance to win the PGA.  His response was something like "Oh yeah, ok let's give it a shot."

Really only one reason - it's called G-O-L-F. It's hard.
Tour caddie told me that for most of the regulars on tour - it's all about the 3-4 times a year they find "it" and maximize status to keep card for next year, and the rest of the year it's about maintaining & maintenance of their swing.
Something to be said about that.

Memo to major winners - if it ain't broke don't change it ... also look at Paddy - won 3 majors in quick succession, changed his swing and can't even contend at a regular Tour stop nowadays.

Heard Kaymer was getting ready to take the OneAsia Tour by storm. Rivalry with Lee Westwood 2013. Yeah buddy!
