Keep up your grades as well.  Being both a good athlete and having good grades will give you that extra bump for a scholarship to the school thats best for you to work on your game.

Thanks for the support guys...it is great that lilmike loves his club pro's game...hopefully he is starting to realize that if he could play on tour he would
I dont care what you say, they are teaching pros out there that have the ability to play, and just dont have the money..

If they had the ability, theyd make the money...
its ok, i just found out he qualified for a web.com tour event. He's going to monday qualify again, and he was one shot off qualifying fora pga tour event. Borrowed the money from somebody. Point proven ;)

I think you guys are taking what lilmike said the wrong way. He never said all club pros or most club pros are better then PGA players. He said there probably are a few which I wouldn't argue with. I'd say 90-95% of them couldn't play at all on Tour but 5% could probably play and make a cut once every few weeks if they devoted their lives to it. I think that's what he was saying. Some people don't come from wealthy families or have financial backers. Also like others said some guys choose the family life instead of the Tour life. I just think you took what he said a little wrong. I dont remember reading anything that said most club pros are better then Tour pros he just said some have as much talent.

Agreed lilmike, my issue was with your original quote of ...." there are plenty of teaching pro's who actually may be better than some people on tour" .... there are no doubt a few club, teaching or " PGA" professionals that could or did play a tour.... I guess I disagree with the " plenty" part of the statement?

Also, if you " don't care " what someone says than don't  reply to their post, with that being said I am sure you are a good kid, just know that the % of people that make it on tour is very small... make sure you hava a back up plan!!

Unless he starts making cuts and qualifying for more then one event it doesnt prove your point at all actually. Actually if anything it proves peters point of if your pro could play on tour he would.  Dont say its a money thing because thats part of the game you got to make enough money at the low levels to keep moving up, thats how it works.

Ok, I misspoke when i said "plenty" . But the point i was trying to get across was that the number is more than you think.

I stay in a small town, we have one pro named clarence rose. won twice on tour i think ? But he admits that his brother beat him growing up than he beat him . and that e just played better when it counted most .  ( Q-school )

I've seen this situation twice in my small town. So its hard to convince me otherwise.

Playing well when it matters though is one of the qualities it takes to be a professional golfer.

Guys, tour players are way better than club pro's. Anyont that has had a PGA tour card at somepoint is going to be way better than a teaching pro?
Imagine how many teaching pros that have the talent to be on tour, but they dont have the money.
What about those tour pros that have one good week and lock down a tour card for three years ?

William McGirt come to my club about once or twice a year. And he has yet to beat our teaching pro. Who doesnt have the money to be on tour. But definitely has the talent.

You're teaching pro knows every square inch of the course.  Not a level playing field.  Give McGirt two weeks to practice on your course, and he'll likely win.

I'm pretty sure one teaching pro in America can beat Ulrich van den Berg who is a touring pro ranked 571st in the OWGR

Teaching pros better than PGA tour players?  that is hilarious.

Shooting 68 at the course you work at every day giving lessons to 60 year olds does not mean anything.
You generalized what he said. The way you said it, it is hilarious. Most teaching pros aren't even close to PGA Tour level. But their are some out there.

And to whoever mentioned pressure...why would a teaching pro playing a tour pro have any pressure when playing a pro? They are supposed to get beat.

Haha this thread got totally BOGGED but I'm going to add my $0.02. The club pros that I know would actually have a realistic shot at making the tour if they had the money and time to practice.

I agree with you there peterpro130!  I am a PGA professional and have worked with and for 3 of this years 20 qualifier for the PNC.  These guys are really really good, much better than the average PGA professional.  But they are NO WHERE close to the Tour pros.  Thats why they teach.  They may be able to dominate our section level and play in a couple majors in a career but they cant stay there or make it. Case in point.... Brian Gaffney.  Head professional at Rumson CC in NJ.  Played in US open and PGA this year.  Dominates the section stuff but just cant get there in the tour stuff.  And trust me... he is really really good.  I would say hes one of the best teaching pros in the country for ability level.
