Saw some Pro V's in Target - under $25 for a dozen and they looked new through the clear plastic. They are "Refurbished" - not sure what the company did to make them look like new. Obvious question is whether or not they would play like new.

So...

Anyone know how they get them looking like new?

Each ball is marked with a small "Refurbished" on the opposite side of the Pro V1 mark so they are obviously putting them through some processes prior to packaging and selling.

I buy and play used balls quite a bit and am willing to try these. But I don't want to buy something others have purchased and tried only finding it to be junk.

Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't buy them simply because you have no idea if they are really ProV1s, what model, or how long they might have been stuck in the mud at the bottom of the pond. They have simply been repainted. At 25 a dozen, you can  get used balls in AAAAA or mint condition from lostgolfballs or drmulligans.

They're painted.  The problem is you don't know if they're really ProV's or Top Flites.

Stay away! Refurbished balls are stripped, repainted, and restamped. As stated above, they could very well take any ball and slap a ProV1 stamp on it.

If you want cheap ProV1's, get the practice versions. Brand new from Titleist only difference is the practice stamp and maybe an unnoticeable cosmetic imperfection (refurb paint jobs are usually much sloppier). These are usually priced from $20-$30.

I occasionally buy "refinished" balls from Knetgolf.com and have no reason to believe I'm getting a different ball than the trademark name stamped on the ball.  I recently bought refinished Srixon Z Stars and they perform as well as the first quality Srixons I bought at Golf Galaxy.    I can't speak for other used golf ball sites, but Knet seems to be reputable.

The issue that I see is (even if the ball is legit) when the ball is repainted the effective depth and size of the dimples change. Aerodynamics then are completely altered. The original manufacturers ball factories have high tech equipment to insure their product is produced properly. It's doubtful the used ball companies put as much quality control in their product - they're in it for the money.

I've never played refinished because I can't get past the whole sanding/repainting thing.  Hard for me to believe that the process is good for the ball or that the quality is the same as the original.  Since recycled balls are pretty much the same price as refinished, why would I choose a ball that's been put through a grinder and repainted?  Plus, I figure the best balls are just sold as recycled, so it's the balls that are in the worst shape that get refinished.  No thanks.  Not even tempted.

I have been hitting them for a while in Bad weather conditions... z stars and Bridgestone 330rx never had an issue... Once in a while you might find a ball that seems a bit dead but over all No problem. Lately I have been using Practice Penta 5 from Galaxy $19.95 best Buy.

I also tried refinished golf balls one time and will never do it again.  The balls were repainted and stamped like everyone else has mentioned.  After hitting the ball and looking at it, there was plastic you could peel off the ball.  I thought it was just a bad ball.  The entire 3 dozen were like that.  It was a bad batch and a bad experience.  Spend the extra few bucks and buy new if you can.

I tried those refurbished balls from Target that you are talking about.  I just used them this last weekend on a round of golf.  I will say that I will not be buying these again.  In fact the rest of the balls that I have will be moved to my shag bag.

The main issue I saw on these balls, after one hole, the ball had marks that looks like the paint was peeling from where my club struck the ball.

I have one of those gyro balance machines and I noticed that the refurbished or used balls dont balance up alot of times. So be it advised. I use these balls when i am just knocking around and not for more serious use. New balls almost always balance up.

i played refurbished One tour D's for $10 a dozen. I lost 30 yds off the driver and 1 club length of each iron.

I then learned that they are repainted and all the original characteristics are flawed. I then found lostgolfballs. com and iam a happy man.

50 pentas for $35. They are not painted just washed and resold. %50 of the balls are practically new and the others have some
markings on them and small little scuffs ( still very playable ) and thats just the AAAA rating.

I've found refurbished and practice provs.  I had no issues with the practice balls, but I noticed a difference with the repainted balls.  The coating looks different and the ball feels different.  I don't buy refurbished balls or even practice balls.  I'd rather spend the dough on a new pack of midrange balls.

I ordered a set of Refurbished Bridgestone B-330RXS once and they were the last I ever ordered. They just don't feel right. They obviously get repainted and I believe it affects the balls original weight/performance. Sticking to just Mint and Grade A quality balls from now on.

I bought a few dozen from knetgolf and mine seem good as well. I'll start watching a bit more closely though.
