Eight of our regular playing group are making a trip to Bandon in 6months (yes I am pumped). Every weekend we have a game with 12-20 guys and it always involves gambling. When we travel we always play few games - one for the entire trip and lots of other on course games, but I am thinking Bandon is almost a shrine for golfers and gambling there seems just not right.Instead of playing against one and other we should be all focused on the course.

I don't see anything wrong with a little heat on any golf anywhere.

Heck I've heard some impressive games being played during practice rounds during masters week at the national.

Two of the days I played Pebble / Spyglass there was plenty of action with two of the other guys in my group...

Boy would I love to hear some of those stories. I am sure they have some greats bets, and have allot of fun sizing up their players and negotiating the bet with each other

When I was the there in April my caddie said he thought The Preserve will have some big money changing hands there. A perfect late afternoon Par 3 course that's not easy and could have  some big swings

I think it would be an insult to the course if you didn't have a little skin in the game. Bring a good cigar for after the round as well.

Just bear in mind that Bandon will mess with your head like no other course on Earth. Putts from waaaay off the green, crazy winds and weather, undulating greens, gorse and heather waiting to swallow up just about every ball you throw up and on and on. I can almost guarantee you, each of you will shoot 10+ more shots than normal.

The first day I played Pebble I had a great caddie, the guy was freaking hilarious. I'd read enough stories to know that there was probably a little side action going on and when he was swapping out my stuff to his carry bag I saw him and the other caddie talking - extensively.

I started out bogie par and then stuck my second shot on 3 to 10 feet or so. After making the birdie putt my caddie seemed more exicted than I was. Well after a lousy drive on four I managed to get on and I make a 20 footer for birdie. My caddie fist pumps me and then points to the other caddie who promptly shouts out "I'm sorry but there is NO WAY you are this good..."

Hahahaha, made me laugh...damn that was a good day...

Gambling and golf go hand in hand.  No need to break anyone, but friendly nassau's and skins games are always fun.

Yep...a friendly gamble amongst fellow golfers (friends) can help make it a more competitive and enjoyable round.   Just be sure to enjoy the experience...

Yooo, hey Moose Rocko...help the judge find his wallet!!  Of course, some cheese must be on the table for a trip to the Magic Kingdom.  That being said....after looping here for 12 seasons, I've seen alot of different games being played.  The game that seems to keep all players in the mix is a variation of the "classic 2 man better-ball match play".  Full handicaps apply, maybe mixing up the teams each round with points awarded for the winners 'n ties. You can even switch players after 9....each man working to pick up points toward the final round and money pot. Also, that way you can have daily winners too! Put max of double par, local rules ala laterals to keep play moving.   Throw in some KP's (closet to the pin) on the 3's....which the pro shop will place and retrieve for ya.  Then, you can still have some individual games as you see fit.  The match play game works will here because of the difficulty of the courses i.e. tight lies, big winds and 100' lag putts......and as much as we love seeing our buddies bleed, it's supposed to be fun.  Enjoy your trip...... bring rain gear, extra socks, two pairs of golf shoes and a good attitude.  HAVE FUN and be patient.....the wind is your friend, grasshopper!!

I am also for the gambling. I cant seem to concentrate unless I have a little money on the line. I think it will just make the experience even more memorable. Just think of the bragging rights if one of you can manage to make a putt for the win on the last hole.

My advice would be that a little something riding on the game makes it interesting. Just leave off all the crapola bets that have everyone paying so much attention to how much is riding on each hole and who their partner is at the moment that they don't even notice the course they're playing or the scenery. I swear with some guys and their nonsense betting games it becomes, to paraphrase Jack Palance at the Oscars, "...after a while you don't even notice if the girl's there or not".

Skins, closest to the pin, if a team game is undesirable that is understandable.
Putting 3 / 2's are butal and few play. If I say 3 / 2 and you accept... three putt you owe me two. Two putt (or better) I owe you three.
