Hi - I have been playing a set of MP62's which are great, but they are very well worn and need replacing. I am 6 handicap, and stike the ball consistent with my scores i.e. good for most of the time, with a view poor shots in a round.

I am very keen to look at the Miura Tournament Blades or the Baby Blades, but wonder if they are going to be too difficult to hit for my handicap? I would probably buy a combo set with 3-6 iron either CB202's or CB501's with the blades for my scoring irons.

I am due to get fitted in the next week, but I need to be as clear as I can what I am looking for. So if anyone can advise, I would be very interested to hear thoughts.

I have always played clubs I like the feel of first, and how they perform second. I think this is what has got me down to my HC. However, I do need to have clubs I can hit on a cold English winter morning!

Are the Miura blades going to be too big a leap from the Mizzie's? I love the idea of the baby blades in the scoring irons, but I suspect these would be good for me only in the rounds I am 'on song'.

Any thoughts appreciated

Cheers

If your iron play is your strength and you hit well then the change should not be too much to handle. You should only notice a difference in the blades and at that, the change should be minimal. Hard to pass up the opportunity to get a nice set of miura's.

Currently owned two sets of 62s and played the 1005, which is pretty much the same as the 201 or 202.  I would say this line is most similar to the 62.  The blades obviously are blades . . .  and the 501 will be a bit more forgiving and high launching.

I don't think it will be a big leap for you.  I'm high handicapper and I used to play Nike Machspeed GI irons.  I decided to take a plunge and got myself a set of Muira PP9003.
Although my miss shots are horribles, I learned to hit them more consistently and I just love the feels.
Once you try them, I bet you will fall in love with them.

I thought about the MP64's but I have heard so much positive feedback on the Miura's, I think I should take the plunge. I do prefer a lower launching club, so the Tournament Blades seemm to be my preference, although I love the idea of the baby blades. A smaller head with a sweet spot slightly nearer the heel would suit my game, but I think a combo CB202/TB or BB would be a good compromise, just so I had a bit more forgiveness in the longer irons. .

The forums here suggest the 501's are too close in forgiveness to the TB's, to have them in the longer irons, so the 202's would go in the bag.

Is this a good set up? I'd make the break at 3-6 & 7-PW.

I've done that combo, it's a good choice. I actually went back to all baby blades, 4-PW, after playing the 202's in the 4-6. The longer irons are not that hard to hit and the accuracy I get is much better. And I also have some TB's that I don't get on too well with. They seem to dig more for me and not feel as good as the BB's. I would highly recommend the BB's over the TB's to anyone. Look better, feel better, play better, better ball flight (for me).

Thanks Mizzyman - I have a couple of questions, as I assume from your user name, you had some Mizuno's before.

Can I ask what your handicap is?
How does the 4 iron BB launch?
Is it easy to get in the air, as I am quite a good ball striker for my handicap but still worry this would be too much in the longer irons. I would love to have all BB's but not sure how how I could play with them in January when it is 0 degrees!

Yeah, I used to be all about Mizuno. 2nd favorite set ever was my MP-14's. Then went on to their cavities as I was getting older and not playing as much. I bought the BB's about 4 yrs ago cuz I had always wanted to try Miuras and wanted a teeny little head to practice with and have fun with. Once I got used to them I didn't want to play anything else. I'm a 3.5 index right now I think. I've always been good at getting the center of the face to the ball, so they haven't been a problem. Now, where that face is aiming when it hits the ball is a different story. But a good swing with these rewards you like nothing I've ever hit. If it's really cold a lot where you play, just don't miss badly towards the toe or leading edge. You won't lose that much distance but might sting a little. Good news is that you will know this before you take it back and have time to avoid it. lol

They're not difficult to get in the air. The short head and great sole/bounce lets you go down after it and hit a penetrating shot with all that meat behind it. They're not gonna soar and drop as much as SGI clubs, if that's what you want. Penetrating with good spin (I'm using KB Tours). Maybe get a 4-6 in the 202's as well so you you could have options depending on how you're swinging, weather, etc?

Thanks Mizzyman - Great advice and helps me think this through. Regarding the shafts I have been Project X 6.0's for my last two sets, but a few people have recommended the KB's.

I am off to a Miura fitting centre on next week, so will provide feedback after.
