Can't say I'm totally convinced by the aesthetics... the anser branded insert is plain ugly. I also hate it when manufacturers lump an enormous piece of tungsten on to the sole of a forged iron. In my mind, a forged iron should be a pure, one piece iron.

That said, if they perform I'm sure I'd forget about all that.

I think the irons are beautiful, definitely a huge improvement over the original. One thing I would like to know is why Ping would choose 8620 instead of 1025 or 1020? Is there a design/ performance reason? I only ask because I always here how 8620 is not in the same league as the other 2 in terms of feel, and at that price point, you normally only see forgings out of 1025 or 1020...
Thanks!

I like 'em, though I was hoping the rumor that they'd fall between the G and I offerings would be true. That's the Ping iron I'm waiting for!

Right. 1500 and you cant even forge me an entire club. Also stop with the huge offset.

Is there something about the photo set that makes people think these irons have excessive offset?  The 6 through PW have the same or less offset than MP-69 Mizunos.

I sure don't see it and large offset is one of my pet peeves.

They look good but I have to say to myself and many others have to be thinking... 1200 + for these ping forged irons or 200+  dollars less for some new mizunos that will feel and in somes opinion look better? Unless the price goes down I think their only selling to Ping fanboys.

My guess is that they think the i20 irons are more GI, while the woods are more on the player end.

Don't most of the tour guys use the G series for their woods?
Personal preference.

Of course it is personal preference.  My point is that more guys on tour are using G series versus I series for their woods.

Considering Ping products barely see any discount (I'm no authority, but I've never seen a Ping product that is current production get discounted a penny), that is a serious premium to pay over a set of Mizuno or Titleist forgings.  And if they stick with an upcharge for KBS or Nippon shafts, talk about a price gouge.

Not sure who the target market for these will be.  Most golfers looking for forged players' heads are probably going to be aware of Scratch and Miura etc, and I doubt there will be a lot of them that would choose a Ping over the more custom options with price being essentially equal.

Ping says that all shaft options listed on their site, other than PXi, are available to Anser iron buyers at no upcharge.  This would include C-Tapers and Modus 3's.

No one has yet to answer the question as to why these clubs are $1500.  I'd seriously like to see how they really stack up against the AP2's in a test.

They cost a lot for the consumer because they cost a lot for PING to produce. I'm not sure of the exact production cost, but I know it is significantly higher than anything else PING manufactures.

Other OEM's don't seem to have a problem selling forged clubs for under a grand?

I wonder what the shafts will be the best option for these irons.  These irons will definitely have the bling factor in the bag!!!

Ok yes everything looks very nice as Ping has always been my favorite clubs to play. I play Anser irons now with KBS Tour C-Tapper shafts which I love & I don't see any reason why these new Ansers would perform any better than what I now have as I'm really digging the old look over the new ones. I'm sure the price will be up there so that will be an issue for most. Oh well nice job PING, beautiful looking irons

I personally am glad that these irons are $1500. Otherwise, I would be second guessing my i20 purchase!

Any idea why the PXi isn't included in the "no up charge"?  Is it performance related?  I didn't think the PXi were any more than C-tapers.
