what other resort has a collection of 4 of the top courses in the country, where you can walk from your room to the first tee and never leave the property?  Good news/ Bad news.  One more person who will enjoy the golf resort, one more person to fill up rooms and tee times and conflicting with my plans!

^I look forward to returning later this year and playing the full 18 at Trails.

The 13 holes I did play was one of the most entrancing couple hours of golf I've played. I tee'd off on #3 at 2pm in the afternoon and had the entire course to myself in the lovely afternoon sun - except for workers around 4 & 5 and the marshal at 13.
I had an impromptu picnic at the side of the 10th green and enjoyed the silence. It didn't hurt I hit some memorable iron shots as well.

You played the best of the holes on Trails. I don't know what they are going to do on holes #14-18 but with the exception of #15, the closing holes are pretty poor IMHO. Pretty stupid traversing the hill to get from 13 to 14 as well. Not what I would expect from a Crenshaw/Coore design. I know opinions vary but I wish they would just blow up 14, 16-18 and start over.

Nice story.  Very zen.  I can totally relate.  My Dad and I were a lone pair out on Trails our first time out there.  He's not much for words and the round was so serene, and how you put it, entrancing.  We got tore up that first time but it was like we were on a deserted course all to ourselves.  Time stands still and it is great to get lost in the round during those times.

Although some really don't like #14, I loved it.  It was either a 5% chance at eagle, 10% chance at birdie or par, then 85% chance at a double bogey or worse.  Such a beautifully evil hole!  The only problem with it was the cart ride up to the tee which breaks up the whole flow of walking.

I think the sad reason most folks don't like Trails (or like it the least) is due to the brutality of it.  There's really no forgiveness throughout it and we should be lucky that it is sheltered from the wind.  If it played as windy as BD or PD, it would be too much.

I think that i just played the greatest round of my life, for several reasons.....  Pacific Dunes may be the coolest course that i have ever stepped foot on.  I wish i had the words to describe the course, but sadly i don't.  To say that pictures don't do it justice would be similiar to saying that Einstein was kinda smart.  I also managed to get some rightous weather- blowing for the first 9, then windy and raining for the next 9.  Finally, i had an amazing match with a guy that i met/played with in the morning on Bandon- knocked a wedge to about 6 inches on 18 for birdie to halve the match. Forgive me if i'm gushing.....

Cool story about your time at Trails. When we played it last week, we were the only ones out there, it was magical. It took me a couple years, but I really came to love Trails.

From talking to several caddies; many would say that Trails is arguably the best course on the property, and less dirt was moved in the construction of trails then on any of the other three (Bandon, Pac, and Old Mac).

To each their own... There is a reason why every major ranking has BT as the lowest rated course at Bandon. And I don't think it is because of holes #1-13

Couple pictures from the trip.  It was one of the best golf experiences of my life.

Just realized the pictures are sideways.  I'll make some adjustments and re-post later.  Just tilt your heads in the meantime :)
