When we got to a short par 3 (158 yards), one of the pros and an assistant were at the tee box sitting in a cart.
The pro (Really cute girl) explains that they have a "Hit the green" challenge. Keep in mind, this is Las Vegas.
She says, "You can bet anywhere from $10 up to $100. If you hit the green, you double your money. If you miss the green, we will give you a voucher for the money you bet. You can spend the money in our pro-shop on merchandise or food."
So I'm thinkin...cool! I can risk $10 to make $10, but if I miss the green the money is not lost.
I bet $10 and hit the green.
The girl hands me a voucher for $20 and says that I have to spend it in the pro shop today.
Whoa!!! Hold on honey! I thought I was gettin CASH!!!
I didn't say anything. I just took the voucher and finished the hole.
In the pro shop I bought a sleeve of Callaway Hex Black and a stupid UNLV ball marker.
Although I felt duped, this is a very good way of making sure that some of the golfers spend money inside the clubhouse after the round.
I have a bridge for sale, if you're interested. Good price too.

I think its hilarious that you thought you were getting paid out in cash.
Lets not forget....this IS Las Vegas.
She said, double your money or get a credit for the clubhouse.

The operative word is "SHE".
As in when your girlfriend says "I like you" VS "I hate you". We interpret all of it as "do what I want and you might get to have sex with me." LOL

The price was $30 through golfnow, so it's not a big loss.
Regarding the course, I was not impressed with the conditions. The greens were fine, but the fairways and tee boxes were not cut short enough. It was like teeing up the ball in your back yard after not mowing for a few days. The fairways were not tight and clean; they were long and scraggly.

I would love to play Bali Hai. I hear it's an incredible track.
The other one I'm dying to play is Cascata over in Boulder

Pretty much. It's a dog track. Might be a very nice dog track... but still a dog track... and it winds through a not-so-nice neighborhood. I worked in Vegas all last summer and didn't really mind paying the $20-$25 for twilight to get out after work with a couple guys since it was really close to all of our projects. However... If I was on a "golf trip" to Vegas and wasted one of my days at LV National... I'd be pissed.
Also... first course I've ever seen in my extensive travels that had an artificial practice green... next to a real one. Odd.

Yeah...it's a little rough. If they took better care of the boxes and fairways it would be sweet.
Tiger Woods did have his first win there in the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational.
The last house on the left when you come down the 18th fairway was in the movie "Casino".
