Here is the Gamer V2 that I tried the XV next to it is a Tour Yellow for comparison...I will let you guys be the judge. This was after about two hours of soaking. I put it back in and I am going to let it soak over night.

This is what I am expecting as well.. no way it comes close to the retail yellow we see on the new yellow balls. Maybe someone can try adding some glitter to the solution? :cheesy:

I asked a Titleist tour member the other day if Titleist would ever go with a yellow ProV and he said they were working on one now. He hates the idea as he is a traditionalist titleist guy and blames it on Fila which he fears will stray from green grass acounts more for the big box stuff, but said they hadn't been able to perfect the yellow on the urathane covers. He said he has seens some protos and they looked bad. He wasn't sure if they would be ready for the 2013 models that come out, but that he was fairly certain there will be yellow ProVs

Here are my results from an over night soak...

I think it's pretty obvious that this was more of a novelty and was fun goofing around with it. But I just don't see anyone getting much better results. Though it might be good for winter balls that don't come in yellow or any other color. I guess if you can find a good contrast color for winter dye them that and be happy. I am pretty sure I won't be gaming these "homemade" yellows any time soon.

Yours look a little brighter than mine. Hmm..interesting. On a side note I was shocked as well that it actually dyes the ball.

These are much darker yellows than the current offering by major manufacturers. Can you even follow them as well as the manufactured yellow balls in flight?  Do they stand out in a fairway?

On a side note, aren't Pro V's originally a brownish color and then died/bleached white?

So when are you going to go out and play with them. Interested to see if there will be rub off from the clubs, or ball washers out on the course. If so, how much will come off, as I would expect some to come of the ball. Also, what was the amount of your solution, 1 cup of hot water and 1 tablespoon, etc...Good job btw !!

Thanks. Actually I sort of eyeballed it. I just filled up the small mason jar you see in the pic to where the water level was slightly higher than the ball. I just used hot water from the tap (I did not heat anymore than that). I used a heaping tbs of the turmeric. Every hour or so if I walked by, I would mixed the solution a bit...I left it in there approx 10-12hrs (overnight).

The turmeric seems more potent than the dye and came out much darker. As expected, no shiny yellow, more of a dull yellow similar to older range balls. I put one in play this morning for 2-3 holes and it there was no fading or discoloration.

The 4 balls on the top right are retail yellow balls (srixon, titleist, slazenger and wilson); the bridgestone in the same row came closest in color to them.. everything else was duller and the shade varied depending on the ball

This is interesting... thanks for posting.  I have some bolas (2 golf balls on a string) that I made for a ladder-ball game.  Painting them was not good, chipped off.  I might have to try this and see what happens.

I am going to do some orange ones to play with except I can't see myself ever playing an orange ball on the course.  I would never have to mark them though.

I think you'd find a closer match to retail yellow balls with a chartreuse dye. I found something that said 2 parts yellow to 1 part Kelly green RIT dye would make chartreuse.

I've seen the yellow protos too and they're terrible. The reason is because Titleist paints their golf balls whereas other companies such as Srixon and Bridgestone dye the urethane the color they desire. When Titleist painted the Pro V's yellow, they not only looked cheap but the paint would come off after use making it look even worse. Think about how bad a Pro V looks after it pounds concrete. Now times that by 1000 and that's the problem with the Yellow Pro V.

No Yellow Pro V's for 2013 unless their process changes.

So I think the trick is to only soak them for about 3-4 hours. This is my second batch and they turned out much better than the first ones. I think if you leave them in too long they get that "dirty" yellow look to them. :WTF:

Well I decided to play with them today to see how the finish held up. Didn't scuff all that bad but the sun is a killer. After 9 holes (2hrs) just a little yellow tint was left. Let us know if the same happened to you.

fadedballs 001.jpg

Left= after nine holes, still had a little yellow tint. Middle= what the ball looked like before the round Right= left that in the sun and you can see where the sun had hit.

Yep had fun while it lasted. Mum always said the sun is the best thing to get stains out of your clothes. I would imagine the dye would work better.
