I used 1 teaspoon neon yellow RIT (available only online) to about 1 `/1 cups. Heated the water to almost boiling and then put the dye in and then the balls after stirring.
What is that ratio?
1tsp to how many cups?
I've been using 1 tsp to about 1 1/3 cups and have had pretty good results. I've found that the key is to stir the mixture every few minutes while the balls are sitting in it, otherwise all of the rit settles in the bottom. You can also re-use the mixture, but you have to heat it in the microwave. For some reason, once it gets could it doesn't work as well.

The heat of the water led to the seams of the ball covers to separate...

This is a cup of hot water with a tablespoon of turmeric added and stirred, then left over night. I've just got some blue RIT dye i'll be having a go with over the weekend :-)

How hot is the water? I thought I saw somewhere that the temp needs to be hotter than 140. The water at my place is 160. Also, each ball takes the dye differently. Wilson Staff Tx4 absorb it the best.
Here is what I did for Easter:

the dye can be reused, just reheat it to about 140 - 150 degrees.
I am working on an orange that I want to use. I shoot a lot of trap and skeet and since the color on them
is orange and they are easy to pick out in all light conditions.
