Thanks for posting!  I never know whether to trust these folks on the shows.  Obviously they are being filmed, so they can create whatever persona they want to show the public.  However, even watching skeptically, Mark King seemed like a geniunely caring individual.  I hope that is really the case.  It makes sense that he is home grown within the company.

I never got the chance to watch this on TV, but it was enjoyable to watch/listen while working.   I do think there is a lot "production" value added in these types of stories, but I do get the impression that Mark is a good guy with an eye on more than just the bottom line.

I like the show and the concept but the gifts at the end to the employees are all just for taxes, lets be honest. Write those off as charity and take that off your tax bill for the year, it's good the money goes to an individual who deserves it but it's not the CEO being a nice guy taking the money out of his pocket TM wrote those checks for the employees and will write it off accordingly. Good show tho, and like I said I rather the individuals get it vs the IRS getting it

Silly question...this is my ignorance of tax laws, but how does a company write off the financial gifts or contributions for a dream trip to Australia, down payment for a house or a new puppy?

Not sure about the US but as far as I know, in Canada gifts like that would be taxable benefits that the employees would have to pay income tax on.  The company would be able to write it off.

I cannot believe Mark King has worked 30 years for TM.  I guess that's why he is a bit cocky.

You do know a write off is not a dollar for dollar reduction in taxes owed by TM. Maybe that is not what you meant, but I hear people say something like that all the time as if they can get it all back on the corporations tax return. It lowers the taxable base which will lower their taxes some, but that generally is it.

Thanks for posting the video. I missed the episode.

Liked TM when I had the v-steel and when the smoke tpmb's were out. But since they bought Adams...figured they are worth giving a second chance. I love Adams clubs and I buy them, TM digs Adams as well, so they bought them. Atleast we have that in common, I hope their intentions are the same though.....

i saw the episode on TV. very nice. my wife actually watched it first and was calling me saying "hey, have you ever heard of taylor made golf? they're doing undercover boss on it."

in re the above, also note: the FMV of all of this stuff probably wasn't more than $60,000 or so. That means very little to addidas corporation. sure, they'll take the writeoff, but it's not like it's really impacting their bottom line.

now, the publicity and marketing they get from it? that's worth its weight in gold.

I watched it after reading this thread. I have a lot of respect for that CEO and the employees. All the people on the assembly floor seemed like they enjoyed their jobs. I always looked at TM as this big emotionless juggernaut of the industry. But in fact its real people, and a really nice guy at the top. I might have to buy some TM stuff. Maybe some balls that Caley might have touched. I mean he said they want to grow the ball sales.
