I was thinking back to what cars I have owned and it occurred to me that apparently I have no brand loyalty.  Now I've always known I wasn't a "Chevy" guy or something, but I thought I tended to at least like certain makes.

Anyhoo, who can top my list?  I am counting 12 separate auto brands I have owned in my life.  This includes co-owner with the wife but not rentals, business, etc.  Sub-brands are included (Chevy and GMC would be separate for example).
Here goes in no particular order...

Chevy
Mini
Plymouth
Mercury
Saturn
Opel
Nissan
Toyota (2 times)
Honda (2)
Audi
Saab (3 times!)
Dodge

Volkswagen (2)
American Motors (2) actually one of my favorite cars. They were ahead of their time.
Chevy (minimum 8)
Cadillac (had a used El Dorado largest one they ever made. For sure cruised down the highway)
Buick (2)
Ford (3)
Oldsmobile (2)
Audi
Subaru
Acura (2)
Toyota (4)
No Chrysler products.

Couldn't catch yea.
This was a depressing exercise.
Man have I spent a small fortune on cars. Most of them were new cars. :fie:

I started out strong, but faded a bit afterwards.  Just pathetic over the years!!!

1986 Pontiac 6000 LE (first car ever.....so dull the sun didn't shine off of it!)
1990 Pontiac Sunbird
1991 Hyundai Excel (terrible)
1998 Dodge Neon R/T
2000 Toyota Starlet (while in Japan)
1994 Honda Accord
2003 Nissan Xterra
2008 Nissan Sentra  NEW
2007 Toyota bB (current car while in Japan)
2013 BMW 328i  NEW

Yep........only two NEW cars in my entire 18 year driving history and not a whole lot of brand loyalty myself.  I must say though.....that Pontiac 6000 LE was just stellar.  The moonroof leaked ALL the time.  The clear coat was GONE.  And.......the driver side window would always lose its seal when I was in the car wash.  Great s***!

Still..............only 6 different makes.  You got me by a long shot!!!!

I guess I fall on the complete opposite side of the fence. In my 16 years of driving, I've had:

1988 Ford Ranger
1986 Ford F150 (hand-me down from dad)
1990 Ford Mustang GT
1993 Ford F150
2001 Ford Mustang GT
2004 Ford F150 Heritage
2006 Ford F150
2004 Ford Mustang GT
1996 Ford F150
2011 Ford F150

Of those, only 2 were new.

My wife has had:
1997 Honda Civic
2007 Honda CRV

We find something we like, and we stick with it. Though, we both have decided we are going to depart from our usual with our next vehicles. We are both thinking BMW/Audi

I'd be interested to hear what you guys who have owned a number of different makes have to say about the quality of each one.  I don't have much to add to the conversation, personally...

In my 14 years of driving I've got 10 makes and I'm missing two cars, this list is just depressing.

1989 Caddilac Brougham - First car this thing was awesome 21' long
1990 Volvo 740 turbo - 3rd car very cool the turbo really got this moving
1991 Mercedes 190E - quick little car
1999 Mercedes C220 - mechanical nightmare
1990 Ford Bronco II - POS beat it up 4 wheeling, the up down window switch caught on fire once
2005 Ford Expedition - Current daily driver very roomy and can fit a full golf bag up and down in trunk
1995 VW Jetta - worst car I've ever owned
2010 VW Routan - wifes daily driver
1990 Mazda Miata - fun took this thing around a near 90 degree turn at 60mph and got it to skip
2005 Mazda 3 - fun car good mileage
1999 Dodge Durango - best 4 wheel drive system but mechanically was not very good
2000 Honda Insight - 60 mpg
1994 Jeep Cherokee - fun car 4 wheel drive manual 2 door beat it up
2005 Subaru Impreza - best all around car I've ever owned totalled by a drunk driver 6 months after I purchased it

Still fairly young at 24, but,

1991 Grand AM
2005 Mazda 626
2003 Mercedes Coupe Kompressor
my current, 2010 BMW 328i

so no loyalty here, but I will say that straying from BMW will be tough for me.

Well, I think it says it all that now I own a Honda and Toyota and have no intention of changing anytime soon.  I guess that is some loyalty in the end.  I've owned two of each and no issues ever.  The other ones... eh..mixed results.

Chevy - few issues, the best was when the door would not latch and I had to drive it to the dealer holding it shut.  Oh, and at the same time the seatbelt would not latch.  wtf, are they trying to kill me?  And that was a newer car!!
Mini - did not own long enough to comment
Plymouth - broke a clutch, some other stuff, but it was a beater
Mercury - ugh, half way through a road trip it decides to drop a tranny.  Towed 200 miles.  Repaired the tranny, happens again.  Kept me away from Ford for a long time.
Saturn - Some similar issues to the Chevy, which used the same parts, but was two years newer.  Think GM would fix it?  Nah...
Opel - A frankenstein car so no comment.  Had a toyota engine wedged in it.
Nissan - Worked pretty well, no majors
Toyota (2 times) - No issues
Honda (2) - No issues
Audi - window stuck down and I have to drive 60 miles, in the rain, and it's like 3 months old.
Saab (3 times!) - all old, all had issues
Dodge - no issues till I wrecked it, which was not very long

I am sort of happy that someone else had the opportunity to enjoy the shear pleasure of that old school Pontiac!  It was a true driving machine!!  Oh yeah.......I am ALSO from Indiana.  I am pretty sure I still know Indianapolis like the back of my hand!  I miss that city.

This is fun...

In order of appearance they are:

86 Chevy S-10 Extended Cab 5 speed  (Still have the bill of sale, many hours spent cutting grass for this ride)
88 Honda Accord 3door LXi 5 speed (the college commuter)
90 Ford Explorer 4x4
95 Chevy K1500 4x4 Extended Cab
97 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Extended Cab 5 speed w/ Cummins diesel (probably my favorite)
96 Chevy Suburban 4x4
03 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 Extended Cab 6 speed w/ Cummins diesel
02 Ford Excusion 4x4 Limited w/ powerstroke diesel
08 GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab 4x4

So I am loyal to 4x4's.  My OTG (other than golf) hobbies take me off road a bit.  Thought I would try this time and see if a half ton pickup could do the work of a 3/4 ton or 1 ton.  It can, sometimes.  Those times when it can't are not fun!  I don't think I will own any more non-diesels and look forward to the day when we have more passenger car choices that are diesel.  That is one of the things the Euro nations do right, in my opinion.

Let's see if I can remember:

Buick Regal (Junk)
Volkswagen Rabbit (Junk)
Nissan (Datsun) Sentra (Rusty, but cost $250 and drove it for 2 yrs so I cannot complain)
Chevrolet C1500 (Wonderful truck)
Volkswagen Jetta TDi (Great powertrain, rest of the car was junk)
Ford F150 (Wonderful truck)
Pontiac Bonneville (Good powertrain, rest of the car was junk)
Isuzu Amigo (Nothing more than a beach-buggy, but simple, cheap, dependable)
Honda Civic (Great car)
Nissan Sentra (Junk)
Honda Accord (Great car, saved my a** in a very serious accident)
Mercedes-Benz 300CD (Best car I've ever owned)
Mercedes-Benz 400E (Second best car I've ever owned)
Mercedes-Benz 240D (Third best car I've ever owned, slow enough that driving it is like playing chess - you have to think ahead!)
Mazda 5 (Useful, flexible car, terrible quality.  Abysmal.)
Chrysler Sebring (JUNK)
Acura 3.5RL (As exciting as a bowl of oatmeal but a wonderful commuter car that will last indefinitely)

Have owned way too many vehicles and way too many brands.

Over the years, I've developed opinions on which brands/models are superior in their type group, but overall I'm not loyal to any one brand.

If anything, my only form of brand loyalty is a general disrespect for General Motors---although I currently own three of them.   :russian_roulette:
