Anyone watching Morning Drive this morning will see a change: Gary Williams takes the chair vacated by former co-host Erik Kuselias. It took me back to when Regis Philbin left his talk show and co-host Kelly Ripa took over his chair.

My question: will it take as long for Morning Drive to find a new permanent co-host as it is for Kelly Ripa !?!

Good for Gary WIlliams....we need more Lauren Thompson! Can I stop looking at Holly for awhile? This EK talk just screwed up everything!

It'll be interesting to see if they put a permanent co-host in or just have a floater. I like the latter. Your analogy using  Kelly Ripa and Regis is a little flawed. Thinking this was the Erik Kuselias  show and Gary was his Andy Richter is probably what EK thought. Gary was always the one who knew what was going on and Erik the bumbling sidekick who wouldn't shut up.

If you were trying for something similar to Erik"s time on his "show".  This would be a good fit:

Maybe the Morning Drive's new plan is to have a permanent host (GW) and a rotating "guest host".

IMO, it's a good idea to keep the talent fresh and, hopefully, interesting.  However, I haven't seen anyone thus far who would fit the show on a permanent basis.

Also IMO, you can keep Holly Sonders now that she's been TAINTED by Kuselias. Her looks are kind of fake-hot, but her personality is not likable. She reminds me of  the beauty queen-cheerleader-rich girl from high school.

The show is slowly floating in the right direction!

Very much so! Congrats to producers for trying to make it better. It just took awhile.

The fact that E.K. lasted more than the first week
surprised me. Now I can watch without grinding my teeth.

I think you'll see Rex Hoggard, Foltz, Rosaforte, and maybe a few others get a full week, just as Roberts and Sobel have, to see who fits Williams and the format of the show.  No reason to rush to a decision and have to make changes yet again.  My preference would be Foltz, but I'd be happy with anyone but Roberts.  I think his abrasive interviewing style may hinder the show's ability too book some guests.

ABFOR- Anybody But Foltz Or Roberts - Seriously I would watch reruns with EK on a continuous loop before watching a show with these two on a regular basis. Foltz has the personality and mannerism of paint drying. He might know what he is talking about, but if you can't convey that info without putting people to sleep, thats a problem. Roberts is the angry, whinny evil twin of GW. I can't handle 5 seconds of the two of them sqeeling like school girls over sweaters.

IMO it should be GW and Rhymer or GW and Annika, but no chance that Annika does it fulltime. Goydos was great, but he wants to keep playing. Nobilo would be good too, but not sure he would want it fulltime.

You seriously would take the "yuck-yuck-yuckling" of Charlie Rymer over Foltz?!!?

wow

Sobel should not be on TV.  ever.

Rosaforte would probably be a good fit.

Problem is that Rosaforte would then be part of every single show broadcast on TGC and he would be in TGC studio 24/7.

the 24 hour Rosaforte channel.

I mean, I think the guy is good at what he does, but does he ever go home ?

The problem with Rosie and Sobel is that they're a little too eager to make a story out of absolutely nothing.

And I mean NOTHING.

Fowler wins and Rosie immediately puts the "we're all waiting around for this guy to win" moniker on Bud Cauley... That same week!
Rosie was badgering The VP of rules about whether or not that single in the Players should have been DQ'd for missing his time.   He wouldn't let it go even after an explanation.
Sobel is a judgmental dink that won't wait around for real information before tweeting like a teenage girl.

There I said it.

At least with Rhymer people would be awake to hear his yuck yuck yuckling......when Foltz no one hears anything he says because they are sleeping.

Agree 100% on Sobel....shouldnt be on tv.

IMO - Rosaforte is on too much now and if they add him to the morning lineup, how will he have time to find out if Rickie Fowler won his member/guest or latest game of Wolf with the boys at the club?

Mike & Mike is a good show, but really belongs solely on radio. Morning Drive was never a radio show, but has to be careful not to become like one.  Having guys like Roberts, Foltz or Sobel will not help the TV audience.

So, NO on:
Roberts
Sobel
Foltz
Rosafort
Annika
Nobilo
Kelly Tillghman
John Feinstein

MAYBE on:
Rich Lerner

YES on:
Woody Austin
Mike Hulbert
Charlie Rymer (once in a while)
Rick Reilly (once in a while)
John Hawkins
Dave Feherty (once in a while)
Any of the Harmon Brothers
Dave Marr
Peter Kessler
A post-prime player with a British or Scottish accent
Bramble Chamblee
An Arnie/Jack/Gary rotation
Lee Trevino
Chi Chi Rodriguez
Fuzzy Zoeller
Boo Weekly
Brad Faxon
Fluff Cowan
Joey Sindelar

That's it for now.

Last night watching Big Break I realized that my vote is for Stephanie Sparks. She would be a decent fit, at least as a fill in. She knows golf, has some game and a good tv personality. Which also begs the question why isn't she on the GC more than just hosting BB? She used to be on a lot more and always did well.

i think they should go to a Morning Joe type of format and have a table full of guests.  More of a golf discussion than an interview show.  Bring in a few people at a time to discuss hot topics.  Let GW run it.  I haven't seen any femaie talent that could hold an audience.  I'd say Win but sometimes just seems a bit aloof and out of it.  to me the show needs to losen up a little.  Maybe GW just needs to wear a peter millar pull over instead of a sweater every day.

Also IMO, you can keep Holly Sonders now that she's been TAINTED by Kuselias. Her looks are kind of fake-hot, but her personality is not likable. She reminds me of the beauty queen-cheerleader-rich girl from high school.

EXACTLY!

What about Dennis Miller?

I'm sure he could tie-in Tiger missing the cut with a drawn out reference to the Ottoman Empire or the Ignatius J. Reilly character from the book "Confederacy of Dunces".

I'm OK with Gary taking the host chair and I agree with most of what has been said.  I think that Foltz would be the best replacement and that Rosaforte and Sobel get tiresome.  Holly has been tainted , but I also think that Lauren seems like the cheerleader that wouldn't sign your yearbook in high school.  The rotation idea might be the best option.  In any event, whoever it is the show is now watchable and I'm grateful for that.

I love it when they have a tour player in there for a day...

But I wish they would let them make their own picks for the fantasy lineup....

I really enjoy Jason Sobel on the morning drive. At least when he has an opinion it makes some sense rather than E.K. ranting and raving but really having no idea what the heck he is talking about.

who is JohhnyMac?  Do you think I'm an alias?   hahahhahaha  I can assure you I am nobody except the VinDog.

I've made my preferences clear.  Rick Rielly should not be on any list for anything except the dishwasher position at Denny's or Waffle House.  Personally I like my golf show hosts to know something about golf.

YMMV of course and while this is fun banter, we don't call the shots.
