I am a ProV1X guy, every time I try a new ball, I'm right back to 1X. Funny thing happened at a tournament last week. Long drive hole guys gave us Pinnacle Golds Remax long drive balls. I say no thanks & pull out my 1X and hit my usual 280 firm AZ drive to left edge fairway. Guy throws me a Pinnacle Gold and I don't even want to hit it cause of the name! Hit it well and it stopped 315 yards away, what the heck!!!!! 2 holes later i drive a 324 yard par 4!!!!! I even took a picture of it on the green. What the heck is going on here. I played my 1X front 9 then on 10 is when I started playing Pinnacle. I know this wasn't a fluke because I was playing with my usual golf buddy and he and I drive with-in 5 yards of each other and back 9 I was at least 15 yards ahead of him, sometimes more.

Say what you will but I was there and my buddy saw it too. Chipping was difficult and putting was ok with it. That rock ball must be a great fit for my swing and on our firm AZ fairways, i do hit  a draw so it rolls out.

AND......... it was straighter!!! Guessing due to lower side spin too?

I know I can't play this ball on our firm greens but it did get me thinking, if a firmer ball drives longer AND straighter then why not find one I can also chip with? After reading here it seems maybe I should try a 3 piece ball? Are 3 piece balls longer than my 1X but not quite as good around greens? Or do you need to get 2 piece balls to get the distance?

In YOUR experience, which 2 or 3 piece ball should I try for max distance yet with some spin? Guessing NXT Tour, Chrome, Diablo Tour, Velocity? Has anyone played these and help compare?

Srixon AD333 or Tri- Speed are also worth a try. They are long and reasonable around the greens.

I am having a good run with a couple of boxes of older Wilson Dx3 Soft, 3 piece as long as most and decent enough around the greens

My only official (witnessed) 300 yd drive came off of a Pinnacle Gold.

I used to play them almost exclusively.  Pretty cheap as well.  I have a pretty high ball flight so the lack of approach spin wan't that big a problem for me, but you do have to play for some release.  Definitely play for wayyy more roll greenside.  But I use to make it work pretty well.

Now that In think about it, I wonder why I switched...

Interesting. I usually only get maybe 5 extra yards with a "distance" ball vs. a 3+piece urethane ball. You may want to hop on a LM when you get a chance and check out your spin numbers. The only thing I can think of is that your getting over 1000 more rpms with the V1xs. When I switched drivers, I'm now getting about 15 more yards than I was with my r7 Superquad, but I think over 90% of that is due to the new Adams bringing my spin down by about 1000 rpms. I rarely stick with distance balls, because I'm a short side artist and frequently need the ball to stop very quickly. Let us know if you get some LM results!

I've been playing distance balls over high spin balls for years. I'm in the fairway more and get more distance off tees shots and irons.  My full shots are high trajectory and have no problem stooping them in one hop.

Short sided pitches are a problem though and I try to compensate with a cally x-tour 58* wedge with Mack daddy grooves and a DG spinner shaft.

This combination has been the best for my game. I like HX Hots, but will try out the pinnacles next time

It's not just bricks. I used a Hex Chrome last week and completely airmailed 2 approach shots over the green. It could be a combo of legal grooves and hotter face R11 irons but these are significantly longer than all the other premuim balls with iron shots.
For pure distance the HX Hot is my weapon of choice; goes like a scalded cat yet still feels fine around the greens.
