I don't know who statistically is, but I sure l to watch Stricker and Fowler from 120 and in.  Phil's obviously fantastic as well.  I'd love to be able to replicate Stricker's wedge move, but man, it's difficult.

Whose wedge game on Tour do you want?

Luke's all-around short game is pretty sexy.  It's incredible how good these guys are inside of 125 yards...

I think all around I'd take Stricker.  From 50-125 hes 2nd and hes 11th in scrambling.

Phil plays awesome flops and nice pitches.  I can't remember him wowing me with low shots that release or runners etc.  he relies too much on his 64 for me to go with him.  (I could be wrong.  Feel free to correct me with stats or examples.). Anyway, it's struck me as a weakness of his at The British (Open Championship).

Overall, I gotta go Luke.  He always seems to give himself a chance with a wedge AND he's possibly the only pro I learn from, by just watching on tv.

Sir Philip Mickelson, even though he does hit a few more average shots than he used to.

Anyone who has a caddy tend the flag from 80 yards and then proceed to almost fly it in the hole gets my vote. Phil

And the flop on 15 at the masters didn't suck either.

I would take Donald as well. Guy can get up and in from almost anywhere. I wouldn't mind having Stricker's wedge game either though. It's fun watching Phil hit the big flop but sometimes I think he just does to much almost.

That is a really interesting list. Many of the guys who announcers fawn over are really just average (Tour) wedge players, including Luke Donald and Lefty. Dustin Johnson is pretty terrible with his wedges, which is a crime for a bomber.

anyone who can win the Masters without once going for the green on the par 5's and be something like -11 or -12 on them has to be a heck of a wedge player....zach johnson for me.

2012 PGA TOUR Scrambling Average Distance to Hole, Around the Green 2012 PGA TOUR Scrambling or Around the Green 2012 PGA TOUR Proximity to Hole (ARG) would probably be more accurate stats to look at.

2012 PGA TOUR Approaches from 50-125 yards aren't really a true "wedge test" and the fact that Lee Westwood, who we know has big issues with Short Game is near the top on that stat is a red flag.  (Westwood is deadly accurate with his approach shots from the fairway though, which skews his stats here.)

Zach Johnson's or Steve Sticker's wedge games would be tempting to have.....but I gotta go with Luke.  The guy got to number 1 with it.....plus, his sand play and putting are tops as well!

On the European Tour, Harrington and D. Howell are both very well respected for their distance control on their wedge game.

I wonder if there is anything to be gained by the equipment or bag setup of these guys.  Seems almost all have a 60* wedge, although a few have 58's instead.  Not that that is surprising though.  I hate my 60* and never use it.  Once per 6-7 rounds.

Probably the best wedge player to ever play the game never played the tour. He parlayed his magical wedge game into millions of dollars of winnings on the golf course, earning more than the leading money winners on tour in the 1950s and '60s. His name? Marty Stanovich, otherwise known as "The Fatman." If you had his wedge game, you'd be staggeringly good.

The book "Hackers, Hustlers and the Fatman" has some stories about him.

+1. Luke and Phil. Luke for consistancy, and Phil for the occasional absolute magic (Phil's not as consistant as Luke ... but I swear he can now and then hit wedges that do not even seem physically possible).

If you look at those stats every year going back to 2002 Stricker is almost always up there, Luke is as well so for consistency they are the best.  Phil and Tiger are either one of the best or middle of the pack, but there are other factors to consider.

I would take Phil or Tiger when playing well over any of them, espcially around the green, for med. length pitches say from 50 go 100 yards Sticker and Donald rule.  Probably because they need those shots more than Phil and Tiger, whom are always around the par 5's in two.  Padraig Harrington is pretty solid in the stat department as well.

When he was playing well Jose Maria Olazabal was stunningly good, but I have no idea if he still has the skills to be ranked highly.  Seve in my mind is the best of all time.
