Just received two emails from Golfland Warehouse announcing this:

================================

New Callaway uPro MX+ available for Pre-Sale!
Callaway has announced the release of the new Callaway uPro MX+ is less than a month away!  We are offering free shipping and a Pre-Order TITU price of just $229.99 (Reg. $249.99) to our customers.  The new uPro MX+ has been thouroughly tested and play-test reviews have been excellent.

http://www.golflandw...s-Golf-GPS.html

=================================

Callaway has also re-launched the UPro website with new information - this is a page which had previously been blanked and "Coming Soon"

http://www.callawayuxplore.com/upro

Guess in reality the CEO of Callaway didnt exactly call anyone and tell them anything nor did the board of directors leak any super secret information to some random joes on the street.

Really excited to see this.

And damn, I hate when I'm right....

DC:

That new MX looks good. I know you have the original, what is the build quality like on these machines?

At least you are stuck in Virgina. I am a NH native stuck in Mass.

I have found the build quality to be extremely solid. It is a compact unit and I never had an issue with the screen scratching at all and I did not even use a screen protector. The belt clip also works extremely well. I also like that it is not a sealed device - meaning you can unscrew the back and take out the battery if you choose to carry a spare (they are rechargables but you can buy them on ebay pretty cheap). I played right around 60 rounds with mine between last fall and now.

I played with several other units in the store and just could not get used to using something as big/heavy as a SkyCaddie. The MX can easily sit in my pocket all day or on the beltclip and I never notice it is there.

As I've said, I think if this is successful - and its hard to have a product launch that is *worse* than their last one - but if its succesful this immediately becomes the best GPS unit on the market when you factor in price/features/form factor etc.

And yes being stuck in Mass is definitely worse lol :) - just kidding, I love Mass a lot. If I didnt live here I would be living somewhere in/around Boston.

Dang, I really liked the upro mx but I sent it back to be on the safe side bc mine had a few minor problems.

As luck would have it, I just bought an Sgx last week and already paid for a membership.....oh well

Thanks for the feedback. I think I will preorder this new one. In a sentence or two what was the problem with first one?

I went to plug it in one night and the internal plug adapter came loose. Called them last week and they are sending me a new one.

I really like the new software too. I've used Golfshot for the last week or so and I really miss having it.

Anyone know if C-way is offering an upgrade program and if they're requiring a new ProMode purchase or will switch for new units even if at a different than normal rate?

If they get the bugs out, I might even trade up from my OG uPro even though it's still going strong.  If this unit is stable and doesn't have the host of MX problems from before, I might consider moving ahead.  I've stuck by Cally hoping they'd not give up so I want this one to succeed.

Love that they still have better price point than many others.

The price definitely seems to set them apart

They also realized it was probably smarter to just include the courses and charge a little more, that way they can avoid that "additional fees" disclaimer and stigma

I hope it works out well and I may give it another shot if so

they were probably smarter to include the courses...not get that extra fees stigma...huh? but there is significant extra fees to get the promodes which is the only reason people buy this?
i dont get what you mean they avoided it by including courses? they just included the basic info and to get the aerial imagery..which is the only thing that sets them apart from others...is to sell it separately. you still have to pay a huge whack to get that.....not avoiding any stigma. i got fed up with the nonsense of them buying out a good run company and then messing this up....i have a golf buddy world...does it have aerial? no but it has the illustrations of virtually every course for free.
i loved the upro idea of the actual imagery but at the huge cost to get all courses...and the long wait. i gave up.

from the site........

High Definition Actual Aerial Imagery*
The upro mx utilizes high resolution imagery to take the guess work out of planning your game. All distances are super imposed on the imagery, allowing you to get the distances you need quickly.
*Available only in ProMode, which requires additional fees.

$60 bucks. i dont know if you can literally download all promodes onto your upro mx and be done with it...or limited amt.
if it is manual in any way like original that would be time consuming to say the least.

but it also depends on where you are and play. go to their site and peruse the courses. my visit showed it could tell where
i lived and automatically loaded up the local courses near me.
that is pretty cool. no needing to enter postal codes and search.

the uncool part? literally half of the courses near me were completely unmapped.
of the mapped ones? only one third had the course mapped for pro mode.
so that means about 15-20% of the local courses available for pro mode.

that is pretty sad. and to make it worse? i only play certain courses and of the ones
i have been a member of or play...almost all were unmapped, with only 1...yes one having
pro mode and the others in only basic. the one i almost joined and play the most. no mapping
at all. not really impressed. maybe you can look at your area and see.

They better have fixed the plug in area...the prior version sucked.  When you tried to plug the download cable into the unit, it bent and smashed like hot metal.  I saw hundreds of complaints like this and a post earlier in this thread seems to indicate they didn't fix this major, damaging flaw.

I might have missed it but the original mx wasn't water-proof and required a skin to protect the battery compartment.  Is the new one?

I used the original on rainy days but tried to keep it in the cart when I could.  I would personally classify it as water resistant but not water proof. Dont think the SGX is fully waterproof either is it? Honestly 99% of the time if it is raining that bad I wont be out there - or I will use my 1600. Whether or not a unit is waterproof is not something thats at the top of my most needed features. But thats just me.

Finally got frustrated waiting and returned my MX a couple months and bought a Garmin G6. The MX was really ahead of its time in terms of features and price point. Too bad it just didn't work right on many units (including the three I went through). The deal killer for me was that the "high definition" aerial photography is of terribly inconsistent quality from course to course, and on my main courses was so dark (must have been taken on cloudy days) as to be completely useless. If it had a bigger screen and the graphics quality and touch-sensitivity that SkyDroid has on my iPhone, it would have been a brilliant product.

This has been wild for me!!!  I kept my upro mx from last year and got  the software update earlier this year with new screen menus and then now  another software update with new screen menus.  For me, I like messing  with the computer and updates so it has been an interesting  ride!!!!!!!!!!!  I would take caution though.  That once it logs into  the update site only to update to the  version 3.0.002 and the widows upro mx link software, if you kept your  mx from last year because it shows updates on all the states and for all countries.  It shows updates 3.7 for all of them and this would take an eternity and must be more for  the new released mx and probably wouldn't show up with people with the  new mx but only my guess.  I did call customer service and they told me to ignore  those updates and they were more than patient and helpful with any questions I had. I did have to reinstall all my pro mode courses after down  loading the new uPro Finder for uPro & uPro Go- Windows Only software along with the 3.0.002 software.  This was either a software issue because of the new software over rides the old loaded pro mode courses or something to do with my pc but that was the only thing I ran into so far and haven't used it out on the course yet after the recent changes!!!

Try to get to Cally tech support.  This happened with conversions during the first release of MX.  Never got a definitive answer as to the problem.  I can't even remember what the fix was, but it's in the older threads about the MX if GWRX hasn't deleted them.  I posted it several times.  If it's still in my profile, I'll post a reply to you again.  Going to check - if I don't repost it means I have nothing.

BR - Have you made sure after you installed/re-installed the uProFinder that you cleared your browser cache? That's where my connection was blocked. It kept going back to the cached link that was broken. Once I cleared, it said "cannot find" but once I got to the uExplore site, it worked. It still says "cannot find" some times, but it always works. Cache might be the problem since the uPro treats it as a shortcut rather than an original request each time.  This is what I posted a while ago that helped several with the original log-in problem.  Hope that's all it is for you.

Man, I was really interested in getting one of these when it first came out...then all the problems....then excited to hear that it was coming back out.....buuuuut....
Just went on the website to look at courses and not even a quarter of the courses that I play are mapped. And one of the courses that I play quite often has 27 holes....they have one set of 9 mapped...that's it! Doesn't do me any good if I'm playing 18.
And the course search function is worthless on their website. Looks like I'll be looking elsewhere for a GPS. Posted Image

I've seen listings/sellers mentioning pro mode is included...but Callaway site says $29 or $49 depending on plan.  Wonder if my current unlimited ProMode will transfer over.  Will give them a call I reckon.

When I received my unit from them I noticed it had been upgraded to unlimited. Now I cant for sure say if that is how all the new one comes or if they updated my plan when I sent my old unit back for repair.

New software is really nice - version 3.0. Its a slight look and feel upgrade over 2.3 but the switch time between holes definitely seems faster based on 9 I played last night. Also seems to change the name to the UPro MX +

Really pleased.

Really pleased.

Have you noticed that the unit doesn't go to sleep unless you press the power button between shots? I noticed a number of times w/ the 3.0 software that the display was still on when I took it out of my pocket. The older versions slept in 20-30 seconds, I didn't see a setting for this time in the software.

Just curious if you noticed the same thing.  Battery life didn't really seem affected, I played 27 holes and could have played at least another 9.

Overall, I'm happy with it (still the original uPro MX that I bought over a year ago, did have to return one, but this one is still relatively solid). Once they get the shot tracking back, It'll be a total package. Finally got the ability to delete rounds on the web.

That's awesome that it isn't going to sleep.  I have the original mx  also and after what you posted, I just went and changed  in power savings, to normal and it's staying on.  Can't wait to see how  it works on the course with this change.  Be nice not to have to awake  it every time and be interesting how much battery it uses.
