So I go to the driving range quite often, I'm an avid golfer (also female). Anyway this older man was talking in the pro shop at the driving range about the LPGA tour players and how they look like supermodels. Ok, sure a few of them do and many of them don't. He said I could look like one too if I lost weight! After he said that I started to question whether I heard him correctly, and I did. How dare someone make a comment like that to a young female who is 5'6, wears a size 4, and weighs a 125 pounds! I just don't understand some people's way of thinking. This honestly doesn't bother me, I am ok with my body but thought I'd bring it up to show that  things like this that make young teenage girls become depressed and self conscious.  I live a very active and healthy lifestyle but for someone to say something so rude is just uncalled for!

The stuff that some people say is remarkable.

I used to be a counselor for teens who had severe emotional and behavioral problems in an alternative high school. If he said that to one of my kids they'd be a wreck.

Oy vey...

ps: of course a couple of others would have take a 5-iron to him.

I think my leg weighs 125. lol

Should have just told him you didn't like what he said. My grandfather (at age 80) was a great critic of how some older folks feel they have earned the right to say what they please just by managing to draw breath the longest. He described it as a D-Bag (my wording) at 30, usually turns into a D-Bag at 70. Age doesn't necessarily change the D-Bag factor as a matter of course. However, YOU also need to give people the chance to apologize to you by telling them you took offense. No reason staying mad. Doesn't mean you have to be rude, but just speak honestly.

(Update: my wife says it is my head that weights 125...oops, no...200 pounds).

We old geezers can be odd, stinky, P-unC, and even downright rude crude and unattractive. But when an old geezer says something like that, I suspect it is something designed (in his infantile mind) to get attention from an attractive young lady. This is not an excuse. He shouldn't act like that. Period. But look at it as a sign of his wanting to get a rise out of you. You probably made his day by responding and he probably went down to the members lounge or 19th hole and bragged about it. What a ding dong he is.

Forget it. or if not, pity that kind of stuff. Old geezers keep cropping up every year. Young ladies who can laugh it off without embarrassment are the future of our society.  There are always dorks who will stare at your boobs, will say stupid stuff, will act like they are your dream. Forget or pity. That is the answer.

I issue a disclaimer: I sure hope that if I exhibit old geezer behavior, probably happens from time to time, someone will point it out, embarrass me, and I can maybe learn from it.

Every single time I see a female college golfer show up at my local course, especially when they have shorts on, half the golfers who are retired feel the need to say something stupid to them.

I feel sorry for them...with their school colors on, they probably feel obligated to be nice to these clowns.

No that is now what I was trying to do. I was just putting what happened to me out there to show that people should watch what they say. Some girls or women may not take those words so well, making them depressed for an example.

Criticism is very difficult for almost everyone to deal with, whether it's accurate or not.  It seems this time it was absolutely inappropriate.  The guy probably just enjoys tearing down other people.  They're called haters.

But looking at it from the other side, I think our culture has come to the point where even good criticism is not allowed and people absolutely flip out over everything.  I read a blog a while ago about a doctor who was crushed as a child when her teacher told her not to interrupt the class.  The doctor ended up blaming everything, including her divorce 40 years later, on that one moment.  Not sure if it's real or just fiction but that was crazy.

You contradict yourself; it obviously bothered you if you felt the need for sympathy on a golf forum.

I'm sorry if any of you believed that I was look for sympathy personally.

As I orginally stated:

So I go to the driving range quite often, I'm an avid golfer (also female). Anyway this older man was talking in the pro shop at the driving range about the LPGA tour players and how they look like supermodels. Ok, sure a few of them do and many of them don't. It was just trying to make a point of how comments made by people can really damage someone. There are girls and women out there who have no reason to hate their body but its because of fashion magazines who air brush models to "perfection" and people who make rude comments that they feel that way about themselves. Its just wrong.

Again this is the only reason why I brought this up, not to gain sympathy because I know I have a rockin bod and am proud of it!

I'm not sure why you feel the need to list your stats and reaffirm your "rockin bod" if you feel fine with yourself; it's typical women logic.
