Hard not to like Kuch. Hope he doesn't thank his ball again though.

Congrats Kuch!

They said the entire area around the path was destroyed and would have made for a horrible lie. With the exception of wearing spikes he couldn't have had any more perfect of a setup.

Speaking of American players, the latest Ryder Cup standings reveal that nine of the top ten (only Keegan Bradley) have won this year, with Zach Johnson zooming to 13th.

I think our Ryder Cup team is looking very good right now.

Kuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuch!

Love the smile ... great to see a player genuinely seem to enjoy playing his sport (which seems to be getting rarer by the day). He was overjoyed to win, and it was almost contagious ... the gallery seemed to be overjoyed to see him win. And I totally dug his two little boys sprinting out to him as soon as the last putt dropped ... and waving to the crowd.

I'd love to see him in the winner's circle more often ... (and he just might be ... he's got an odd backswing - but it really seems to be gelling.)

Reading throughout the thread, besides the deserved comments praising the play of Kucher, I see a lot of Rickie, Rickie, Rickie, but almost not a single word about Ben Curtis, who outplayed him today all the way in the hole on 18.

What a month for Curtis: 1st in Texas, 15th in NOLA, 5th in Charlotte and 2nd today. In four weeks, he has climbed from nowhere to 10th on the money list and 17th in the FedEx. He fell back to 6-under at one point on the front nine , then turned on the jets. Cool, smooth player who can finish. I would have liked his chances in a playoff had Kooch stumbled on 18.

I just have to give some credit where it's due. Very classy guy who is one of the most well-liked players on the Tour.

I feel like Rickie 2013 or even 6 months later would be playing in the playoff at least. He made some mistakes early but did so well to get himself together and come back.

Well done Kuch, I knew he'd get a lot of love from WRX.

I also am intrigued by Na's shot from the cart path.  And someone mentioned sparks coming from the shot if he hit such a shot.  It looked to me like the cart path was some kind of composite that would not have messed with the club that much.  Is that accurate?  What kind of material was that cart path?

How did Na's ball get on the path?  The last I saw it was up on the grass.

Curious about this as well.   I missed the part of the telecast when they explained it.   I saw the tee shot and where it ended up.  The announcers were saying he will get relief because he would be standing on the path.  Next thing I see him playing off the path... ??

Must have been something else going on because my understanding of the rule is that if you take relief from a situation (immovable obstruction) then you must take complete relief.  i.e. you can't take relief from a cart path and drop it on the cart path. ??

Good to see because Ben had gotten the one-hit wonder rep for winning The Open.  He has been on a blinder during the last month.  Kuchar and Ricky also are having a great 2012.  Martin Laird also getting some deserved attention.

Martin Laird is so under the radar that he radar he's under needs another radar to find.

Had a huge 2011 with almost zero fanfare, and so far this year it looks like he'll at least do just as well.

Okay I'm not blasting Rickie here and I'm a fan...

But Rickie has had a great TWO WEEKS.  The beginning of this year has not been anything to write home about, if we remember.  Having said that...It's painfully obvious that he's recently found something in his wedge play and putting.  He's hitting his short irons crisply and confidently, which is what you want.  and his putting was exceptional this week.

Agreed.  I like Rickie too.  A great deal, and the rest of his Golf Boys buddies, but he's been inconsistent thus far.  He's finally found his iron game, that was on display in college, and he's just pounding the driver, long and accurately.  But his putting has been stellar.  He's draining the putts from everywhere, unfortunately no so much when he absolutely needed it yesterday.  I definately hope he can keep it up.  Fear the 'Stache!

Well, both bowles and I were downplaying the "great 2012" by RF, so we were kind of with you on that one.

but I'll throw you a bone...Ben has made 5 out of 7 cuts and never placed outside the top25 in those 5 events with 3 top10s

atta boy!

Fun little tidbit coming up here, but first:

There were zero bogey-free rounds on Sunday.  Tough course indeed.

Can you guess what the record is for fewest bogeys in a PLAYERS Championship?  Answer coming up.

One bogey-free round at Sawgrass is a pretty nice feat, I would imagine.  And I'm sure very few guys have had two bogey-free rounds in one PLAYERS Championship.  Can you imagine a guy having three?  He would have to be playing some special golf.

OK, the all-time record for fewest bogeys in one PLAYERS, for four rounds is........1.

Greg Norman, 1994.  That was the year Greg won with a score of 264, 24 under par.  He beat Fuzzy Zoeller by four strokes.

Observations From My Day at the Players

1. You will hear almost no club chatter when a caddy is carrying the clubs.  Its like they take personal pride as a caddy on the clubs not making a sound.

2. While sitting next to a green (cant remember which hole) I could hear Phil's iron shot make contact with ball\turf.  It was rather impressive because the wind was up there was a big crowd and he was over 150 yards out.  It had a very deep powerful sound.  Tigers sound was close but Phil's was more pronounced.

3. Many college age guys saying they are going to yell "Get in the Hole!!!"  but only do it on the par 5 tee boxes.

4. Pace of play is already well documented

Isn't it amazing just how much fun golf has been this year? Has there been a bad tournament.
Man, just imagine the Open, the US Open, heck maybe the PGA will even be compelling but that's probably asking to much.

Totally. I know people are still longing for the Tiger era - with one dominant player (take your pick, Tiger, Rory, Rickie, etc., etc.).

Me? I think the end of single dominance is great for the game. Don't get me wrong, I'm still a real Tiger fan, and hope he gets his game back, but I think I'm seeing the emergence of a new era in golf (and I've been watching and playing for over 40 years). Several dozen guys that are now treating golf like a professional sport. They work out like crazy (the Jack/Arnie/Trevino era of guys walking the course smoking cigs and drinking beer is over). They are driving the game to new levels. And it isn't just one or two - it is dozens.

I mean, I think about half the PGA Tour events this years have gone to playoffs ... and even those that haven't usually have at least a half dozen people still in real contention going in to the final back nine on Sunday. A 52 hole lead (even by 2 or 3) is completely meaningless. I think I'm looking at some of the strongest, deepest fields I've ever seen in the game.

This is a great year to be a golf fan.
