I'm somewhere between option 1 and 2.  I do care what brand I wear, but it doesn't have to be the latest and greatest.

My son has pretty good style.  He always matches head to toe and every detail.  He is mostly Puma.  I will match my cap to what I wear, but I dont have the flash or wardrobe my son has.  He was told by a high ranking PGA official last week at the Jr PGA Championship that he needs to make it on tour so he can teach some of the pro's about style :)
He was wearing this blue/orange get up.

Well I'm a fashionable guy on and off the course so that's just me. I like to wear what I like. As far as playing partners it really doesn't matter how much what they wear cost but you should look presentable. I've never really believed in playing in jeans even though I love jeans. Just not on the course.

I won a pair of the Loudmouth pants from a golf tourney and have been wearing them a lot.  They are blue and white so not to horrible haha  I make sure to wear a white shirt with it though, can't have have crazy pants and a crazy shirt to!  I'm wearing them in my member pic :)

http://ca.loudmouthg...white-pants.jpg

Rest of the time I'll go with some black pants and a polo shirt :)

Some people have style no matter what they wear and some people don't. A lot of it depends on "how" the person wear his clothes.

I like all the stuff that fits well and keeps me cool and spend a good bit of money on nike or whatever products I am buying, I have always just liked Nike Golf stuff and TW line, I try to wait for discounts but the stuff fits me well and is comfortable but I buy a little less since Im spending a little more. I do not have like 10 pair of shoes like I see other have. I find that to be kind of strange in a way as I do not know more then Black and white and maybe a spikeless shoe like a True Linkswear is needed...so maybe 3 pair or 4 a nice brown as well. That's like tops in my eyes. I just have one white pair tw13 that go with everything!

I love the feel of the nike clothing line, but ill really wear anything that is comfortable. I really dont care what my playing partners wear as long as they dont look like a slob.

I know most women do pay attention to what others wear on the course, but "fit" is the thing I notice the most.  I think too tight clothing just looks bad, especially on people who should not wear tight clothing.  For some reason they think it makes them looks thinner, but actually, it does just the opposite, makes them look heavier.  As long as the dress code is adhered to, most golfers will look okay, unless they're color blind or wear plaids with prints.  I would think that wearing clothing that is too tight would hinder your golf swing.  I know I feel that way if it's cold out & I have to wear several layers...all those clothes just get in the way.

"dress for the job you want, not the job you have"

This phrase totally applies to the golf course or even the range at that!! So whom declared this phrase I salute you Mr. Wise phrase man!

I should'nt talk though because my golf course attire varies tremendously but generally comes down to a nice Izod polo and pants but by hole 2 I generally don't have my shoes on, unless its my run and golf day!

My golf attire FAR exceeds my everyday wear... I'm t-shirt/jeans day in, day out... On the course it's great looking/great fitting collar shirts, sharp pants/shorts

As some wise person said on here once..."look good, feel good, play good"

And I must say, I do ;)

My theory has always been...
if you can play, it doesn't matter what you wear. If you can't, you better look like you can!

However, on the course there is an amendment. You have to at least look decent (good or not) and if you are really bad, you shouldn't dress like you are sponsored by someone (you're trying to hard)

Being married I have help, and I am learning. I attempt to match. I wear a conservative solid, proper golf attire for the course I am playing. Polos and khaki's(short/pants depending on time of year). I have tried to align hats with shirts as much as possible. Many times I will use on of my white or black hats as they go with most.
Other than my lime green shirt that I wear for fundraisers as more of a joke, I can't quite pull off any of the louder, more colorful styles now. I also can't quite do the white belt, or white pants/shorts.
Although I like the golf style, and I like to wear it, I also try to not be the guy that is trying too hard to be "golf guy"

It doesn't make them a bad person but it makes them look like they don't really have any respect for the game or its origin. I understand not everyone has money to buy a $40-$75 polo, but if you're gonna hit up a course, keep it a bit classy!

I played with this guy ^^ last week and he was lookin pretty slick in his red slacks and color coordinated glove. Lookin sharp! Inspired me to get some more colorful slacks.

Overall, I like to try and look put together, but I don't really care what others are wearing. I play with this guy on occasion who wears Khaki shorts with an elastic waist-band and no belt, and for some reason it bothers me. I still play with him and he is a good friend, I just don't get it....

With all this being said, I am a member at the course in which I live and I have on occasion (after hours) jumped in my cart with what I have one (sometimes jeans) and played a few holes to get some swings in. Should I get all dressed up to play a few holes when the course is closed?

Theres a certain image golf has.  I think its up to the players to uphold the image of integrity and class.  Its wrong to be judgmental but I think a tucked in polo and slacks are necessary.

I think it's more egregious to see a hack dress to the 9s than see a scratch golfer dress like his doesn't give two squirts.

For me...and this is solely just an opinion...I try to dress for the golfer I would like to eventually be. I am high handicapper so I am still a work in progress but by dressing nicely on the course I feel that I am honoring the game, my partners and my course (which is public but well kept). Golf for me is an event, an occasion to be prepared for!

What?? I guess that makes me old, which is also why I don't care if people are laughing at me. You can wear your pants I'll wear my slacks :good:
What I don't understand is why guys are still wearing "pants" with pleats..whats that all about?

I find it interesting how different people see different things in how others and themselves dress.  I never would have thought such prejudice would coincide in today's day and age with how people present themselves with their clothing.  I do admit, however, I do the same thing.

I like to wear bright stuff that's cutting edge.  I spent a bunch of years racing and my gear was always loud.  I guess I just keep that mindset with golf clothing.

You are what you wear. No reason someone can't look respectable. Can even get a Greg Norman pants and shirt at Costco for $20 each. If someone dresses like a poor slob,  well....

I agree.  Kind of like that old saying, the man makes the clothes/style, the clothes don't make the man.

Some have it, some don't.

PS - where is that Hogan / Palmer picture from?

The whole concept of "proper golf attire" represents everything that is wrong with the game of golf. It is a game. I go to challenge myself, to have fun, and have some companionship. If someone does not like my jeans on the course I could not give a rat's a**.

By the way, didn't golf originally start as a bunch up sheep herders with nothing better to do? I would doubt they cared about "attire" when out in the mud, wind, and rain.

And also, why are you snobs not out there in jackets and ties on the course? Isn't that what they used to do in the 1890's?
